WILLIAM HELBURN: SEVENTH AND MADISON
WILLIAM HELBURN: SEVENTH AND MADISON($65.00 hardcover, 9780500517659) captures striking fashion and advertising images by the go-to photographer for many of the top agencies in New York during the 1950s and 60s Advertising Revolution.
The reason I wanted to review this book was because the topic is about ’50s and ’60s advertising. I believe this era of advertising is among some of the best this country has ever seen. I eagerly devoured Helburn’s body of work.
As well as cars and cosmetics, Helburn shot Coca-Cola, Canada Dry, whiskeys, clothing lines, airlines, jewelry, cigars and cigarettes, and any number of other products. He worked with the top models of the day, from Dovima and Dorian Leigh to Jean Patchett and Barbara Mullen to Jean Shrimpton and Lauren Hutton.

I love that it focuses on fashion in the 60’s
Definitely the photography. Beautiful, stunning pictures in there.
The best part about it is the spirit & personality in the photographs.
I love that era and would love to see the pictures and how William caught it on film.
The most interesting thing about this book for me is the fact that it is a history book. I am fascinated by “picture books” about history. Love to see how things were or are being interpreted how they were
The pictures are great!
My favorite part of the book is the fashion it showcases, I love the style from then.
My favorite aspect has to be the photographs.
I am looking forward to seeing some of the vintage photos and ads.
All of the photography.
Great book!
I enjoy looking at old advertisements, especially old cars.
images have not been seen since they were first published
I have a marketing degree and I love fashion.. so a book about fashion ads is awesome to me.
The article on Joanne Woodward is my favorite aspect about the book.
I love the size of the book.
Billl Helburn’s book is full of iconic photographs that were the hallmark of advertising and fashion in the fifties and sixties. His story is as remarkable as his photographs. He was the “GoTo” photographer for many of the great advertising agencies of post war New York. He lived the New York life to its fullest and enjoyed his work as much as he did his society life. A great book that is fun to read and candy for the eyes.
I love fashion photography and i love this era the 60 were a really intersting time for fashion
The favorite is the photographs about the books.
I love the vivid images of the photography !!
