William Helburn: Seventh and Madison Fashion Book

January 15, 2015 By Shelley Zurek 109 Comments

WILLIAM HELBURN: SEVENTH AND MADISON

William Helburn Seventh and Madison

WILLIAM HELBURN: SEVENTH AND MADISON($65.00 hardcover, 9780500517659) captures striking fashion and advertising images by the go-to photographer for many of the top agencies in New York during the 1950s and 60s Advertising Revolution.

The reason I wanted to review this book was because the topic is about ’50s and ’60s advertising. I believe this era of advertising is among some of the best this country has ever seen. I  eagerly devoured Helburn’s body of work.

As well as cars and cosmetics, Helburn shot Coca-Cola, Canada Dry, whiskeys, clothing lines, airlines, jewelry, cigars and cigarettes, and any number of other products. He worked with the top models of the day, from Dovima and Dorian Leigh to Jean Patchett and Barbara Mullen to Jean Shrimpton and Lauren Hutton.

This is a great coffee table book. It allows one to go back in time and see the world in the eyes of an amazing photographer.

I love that this book has so much featured from a vintage standpoint from the 1950s and the 1960s.

I love that the pictures have not been seen since they were published. I love getting to see what things were like back when my grandparents were young.

I love the older advertising photos and knowing William Helburn was the go-to photographer for many of the top advertising agencies in New York in the 1950s and 1960s makes this more appealing 🙂

I like that “Most of these images have not been seen since they were first published decades ago”. So many classic pics/ads have been over-exposed.
