Should I Upgrade my Wedding Ring? 10 Reasons to do it!

June 18, 2015 By Shelley Zurek 70 Comments

10 Reasons to Upgrade your Wedding Ring!

This is a Fashionista Events opportunity.10 Reasons Should I Upgrade my wedding ring Zales

All from Zales:  Diamond Cluster Engagement Ring (3.0 ct $4700), Princess Cut Ring (3/4 ct $1400), Swirl Engagement Ring (1.5 ct $2149), Baguette Engagement Ring (1.25 ct $2500)

Ten Reason to Upgrade Your Wedding Ring Now!

  1. You don’t like your original design. Perhaps you got a simple solitaire and thought that was the ideal engagement ring but now you like the princess cut. Makes sense.
  2. Your taste in gold has changed. Thirty years ago, I was all about traditional yellow gold. As I got older, my taste changed and now all my jewelry is white gold. Except my engagement ring.
  3. You’ve hit a milestone. Perhaps you’ve had a baby after 10 years of trying. Or maybe your youngest child has just left the nest. Celebrating your 20th anniversary? Why not upgrade your ring?
  4. Your old engagement ring has a lot of wear and tear. Sure, your ring might last for decades, but that doesn’t mean it’s looking its best. And since this is one of the most important pieces of jewelry you’ll ever own, don’t you want it to?
  5. It doesn’t fit properly. I don’t mean it’s a little loose, either. Perhaps you lost 100 pounds and now your finger has gone down two full sizes. Sure, you *could* get your engagement ring re-sized (if that’s possible with the ring you currently have), but why not take this opportunity to upgrade? You know you want to.
  6. You want a bigger diamond. Don’t be afraid to say it. Many of us want the biggest diamond possible. There’s no shame in that. Heck, I do.
  7. You lost your engagement ring. Hey, it happens.
  8. Your original engagement ring isn’t real. If you’re wearing a CZ on your ring finger, it’s time for an upgrade.
  9. You want it to marry up to your wedding ring. Sometimes people don’t have a matching bridal set — it’s true — and they’d like to have a set that goes together.
  10. You can afford it. For many of us, our engagement ring was bought when we were young and not terribly stable financially, so we got the ring we could afford at the time. As we grow older, our situation changes, so why not get an engagement ring that reflects that?
All these rings are from the Endless Brillance Collection from Zales.

I think if you want to upgrade your ring, I’d talk to your husband. Some men put a lot of time and effort into a “perfect” ring. He’s the one that bought you your original ring so if he’s cool with it – go for it!!

If I were you, I wouldnt upgrade it. Original the better, because thats exactly what your husband gave you. Who cares about making it bigger and better. Originality tops it all. Only bring it in to fix if some piece of it got lost or loose.

They have so many different diamond sets any more that I would love to upgrade. I would still keep the first one I received in some way, like putting on a different finger or even the right hand as a cocktail type ring!!

These are very good reasons to upgrade a wedding ring. I know my Mom had to upgrade and get her gorgeous wedding ring bigger. I think that You’ve hit a milestone is my reason to upgrade and get my ring redone!

I would rather hang on to the one he gave me. I admit, these are beautiful! I still have the friendship ring he gave me way before we ever got married!!

Not sure how I feel about this… a lot of sentiment with my original. Those are some gorgeous upgrades though. My hubby did get me another anniversary ring that had a lot more bling 🙂

When we got married many moons ago, all we could afford was a band, which was fine by me. I am not a jewelry person, so I kept forgetting to put it on. This hurt my hubby more than it did me. He kept thinking I was embarrassed of it. On our 20th anniversary, I was shocked to find a small package under the Christmas tree for me! Wrapped around the ring box was the most beautiful letter from my husband. He said thanks for never complaining about the ring & I truly deserve this one with all his love!! Well after I stopped crying, I could see that the ring set was gorgeous!! 3 diamonds on the gold wedding band & a gorgeous engagement ring 1 1/2 carats in the center and 1 diamond on each side of it. He bought it at Zales with a warranty which states that every 6 months we have to bring it in for a cleaning and to check the diamonds. If one is lost they will replace it free of charge. I have to admit that I catch myself now and then just looking at it sparkle. The ring is an investment just like our marriage!!

Haha, the instant I read this I was like YES!!!! Unless its a family heirloom or something. Styles change and people change and sometimes you have more funds than you originally had 🙂 Upgrading in those cases shouldn’t even be a question!! But then again, I’m not married so maybe I’ll never have to worry about it lol 😉

When I got married 50 years ago I had a 1/2 carat Solitar Engagment Ring and A plain wedding band in white gold. About 25 yrs later my Husband took the diamond from my engagement ring and surprised me with a yellow gold wedding Band and mothers rind with our Birthstones on the Band and My Diamond on the top fancy cut Band. I loved it . about 20 yrs later I lost it and was heartbroken. For our 50th anniversary he bought me an new white Gold set with one solitare in the center again and a lot of tiny diamonds on both bands. Antique Looking I love them. Now I am hoping this is the last set He has to give me. He is a wonderful Man! I am so lucky, So the answer to the question. Should we upgrade our diamonds.Thats totally up to you.I had to keep replacing mine. It was updated the first time..

Thanks for the Fantastic Review on Should I Upgrade my Wedding Ring? 10 Reasons to do it! We’ve been married now for 31 years this past May 19th and he had a diamond put back into the original engagement ring. The diamond fell out and I didn’t have an engagement ring for years and years. This past Anniversary he had it fixed. We still can’t afford to go bigger (not that I wouldn’t love to) but when he was sick last summer, we practically drained our savings to pay for all the bills. We are still paying for the doctors and hospital! Who knows, maybe if we live to our 50th, I’ll get one! LOL Thanks so much for sharing your fantastic review and your personal and professional opinions on Should I Upgrade my Wedding Ring? 10 Reasons to do it with all of us! I truly enjoyed reading your review! I even had a couple chuckles and that’s not easy to do right now with all that’s going on! I really do appreciate it! Thanks Again!! Michele

I don’t wear my engagement ring with my wedding ring. But on our first anniversary, my husbad got me an awesome ring that I’m totally in love with. He did an amazing job picking out something I really like.

I totally upgraded my wedding ring last year and haven’t regretted it for a second! When we got married I got a ring but it wasn’t what I really wanted and so it was time to get my dream ring!
