Ten Reason to Upgrade Your Wedding Ring Now!
- You don’t like your original design. Perhaps you got a simple solitaire and thought that was the ideal engagement ring but now you like the princess cut. Makes sense.
- Your taste in gold has changed. Thirty years ago, I was all about traditional yellow gold. As I got older, my taste changed and now all my jewelry is white gold. Except my engagement ring.
- You’ve hit a milestone. Perhaps you’ve had a baby after 10 years of trying. Or maybe your youngest child has just left the nest. Celebrating your 20th anniversary? Why not upgrade your ring?
- Your old engagement ring has a lot of wear and tear. Sure, your ring might last for decades, but that doesn’t mean it’s looking its best. And since this is one of the most important pieces of jewelry you’ll ever own, don’t you want it to?
- It doesn’t fit properly. I don’t mean it’s a little loose, either. Perhaps you lost 100 pounds and now your finger has gone down two full sizes. Sure, you *could* get your engagement ring re-sized (if that’s possible with the ring you currently have), but why not take this opportunity to upgrade? You know you want to.
- You want a bigger diamond. Don’t be afraid to say it. Many of us want the biggest diamond possible. There’s no shame in that. Heck, I do.
- You lost your engagement ring. Hey, it happens.
- Your original engagement ring isn’t real. If you’re wearing a CZ on your ring finger, it’s time for an upgrade.
- You want it to marry up to your wedding ring. Sometimes people don’t have a matching bridal set — it’s true — and they’d like to have a set that goes together.
- You can afford it. For many of us, our engagement ring was bought when we were young and not terribly stable financially, so we got the ring we could afford at the time. As we grow older, our situation changes, so why not get an engagement ring that reflects that?
All these rings are from the Endless Brillance Collection from Zales.

I think both upgrading and staying with what you have are both great for different situations and people. You make great points, and you are right whether you just want a bigger one, different gold, or a matching set…go for it, if you can. Wedding rings are important symbols that show your love so you want to love it.
I’m a sentimental person so I may not do it but I do know many friends who have for the very reasons you mentioned. And those rings look uber chic!
These are nice rings, I’m all for upgrading, it’s definitely a good idea. Thank you for sharing this post.
It’s still a little early for me to be replacing my ring – it’s still beautiful!
These are all good reasons! I also prefer white gold to gold now that I am older I just think it looks nicer!
Great reasons! We upgraded at our ten year anniversary mark.
I would love to upgrade my ring. My diamond fell out of my original ring.
The husband actually brought up the idea of upgrading my ring a few years ago. While I like my ring, we both feel like the engagement ring part of it needs a bigger Diamond to look nice with the wedding band. When he got it, we were both poor starving college students, so back then it was gorgeous to me. But now HE is unhappy with how small it is. Now it’s just a matter of saving up the money to upgrade it. 🙂
I don’t know…I would feel too attached to the old ring to get a new one. I get sentimental about things like that. Lol.
Psst, don’t tell anyone, but I don’t remember the last time I wore my ring – still waiting for the rain to start fitting again. These look so gorgeous!
I think it is a great idea to upgrade your ring if you want to. These are all great reasons.
I love my ring so am not interested in updating it. But, I am all about diamonds so I would love a second ring!
These are all some great reasons to upgrade your ring! I’d never spend thousands of dollars on a single ring personally but I do understand why some woman would want to; the symbolism of the wedding ring is just beautiful! I told my man if it ever came down to proposal I’d want a rose quartz 🙂
My sister-in-law lost the diamond in her engagement ring so those things really do happen. I think is perfectly acceptable to upgrade your ring. My daughter would love to upgrade her ring because it belonged to her mother-in-law (from the failed marriage between her husband’s mom & dad) I feel she needs a ring that represents her successful marriage with her husband. I think it is great when people upgrade to mark mile markers of a long life together.
I not only need an upgrade, but a whole new ring! I lost my wedding ring and have no idea where it went. It was so special to me because my husband surprised me at the alter with it and it was exactly what I would have chosen for myself. I’ve been holding out hope of finding it but it is about time to get a new one. My anniversary is coming up in July so I will have to take my husband to Zales!!!
These are great reasons to upgrade your ring. Rings definitely go through a lot of wear over time!
My set is from zales… I always hope to upgrade… but I feel like I would miss my original ring, if that makes sense!
I really need to upgrade my wedding ring. I love the style just the way it is, but it has seen some serious wear and tear.
We are actually coming up on our ten year anniversary this month and I have been hinting for an anniversary ring. Not sure I would want to replace my wedding ring, but I wouldn’t mind adding to it. LOL 🙂 Love these reasons, though
I think we all want a bigger diamond, but I could never upgrade my ring. He took the time to go out and pick out the ring for ME, so how could I upgrade it without making him feel like he did a bad job?
I want a big ring… but would miss my ring too much!
