WILLIAM HELBURN: SEVENTH AND MADISON
WILLIAM HELBURN: SEVENTH AND MADISON($65.00 hardcover, 9780500517659) captures striking fashion and advertising images by the go-to photographer for many of the top agencies in New York during the 1950s and 60s Advertising Revolution.
The reason I wanted to review this book was because the topic is about ’50s and ’60s advertising. I believe this era of advertising is among some of the best this country has ever seen. I eagerly devoured Helburn’s body of work.
As well as cars and cosmetics, Helburn shot Coca-Cola, Canada Dry, whiskeys, clothing lines, airlines, jewelry, cigars and cigarettes, and any number of other products. He worked with the top models of the day, from Dovima and Dorian Leigh to Jean Patchett and Barbara Mullen to Jean Shrimpton and Lauren Hutton.

I love the idea of this book because its like a blast into the past from the comfort of your couch. As somebody studying advertising and marketing its intriguing to see how it was done way back and I think this would be inspiring for me to uncover
I love history, so that’s my fave part! 🙂
I love books about old advertising, I think this would be a great resource for college students to appreciate a time gone by.
My favorite aspext of this book is that his former colleagues contributed to it. I like that because you can get a real feel of William Hepburn through their eyes!
I love looking at the styles from a different era and seeing how things have changed.
I would like the history in it.
I love that it has pictures of post war New York advertising. I love looking at items from the past.
Its a look back to the 40 and 50s which I love to look at on all areas. thankyou, ken
This book could be interesting reading about the real Mad Men era
My favorite aspect about the book is the iconic photographs. I enjoy looking at fashion photography.
Bill Helburn did such amazing work. This would be a great coffee table book.
I loved reading about this book, the one thing that I think is cool is Most of these images have not been seen since they were first published decades ago
I love the styles from back then and this book promises to be loaded with beautiful pictures of them!
The Cover since its the only Picture I can see in it but i love looking at old fashioned pictures and their styles and old buildings and cars
Really enjoy learning and reading from the 1950—- 1960’s ERA Would also enjoy all the photographs from ,,,MR.William Helburn ,,U.S.ARMY VETERAN….TY
My favorite aspect of the book is the era it’s focusing on because I would have loved to have lived during that time.
If I don’t get this book, I will DIE! What do I like most? New York? Advertising? The 50s and 60s? The fashion? The vintage? EVERYTHING! It’s Mad Men in book form!!
Immediately thought of you when I was listing it! Shelley
I love several things about this book: 1) that the photos are in color AND black-and-white, 2) that many of them would have been taken in New York City, my favorite place, and 3) that the photos were taken during the very-fashionable 50s and 60s, when I was just a little kid (well, in the 60s)!
I absolutely love old advertising…especially about things that are considered taboo in advertising now such as cigarettes and cigars.
I really like that this book talks about the life and career of William Helburn from the time that he was a photographer in the war until the late 1980s. After knowing about his life and talents, I now feel I understand his need to make feature fashion as his subject matter.
