The Gratitude Campaign, A Simple Way to Say Thanks!

Use the Sign of the Gratitude Campaign
The Gratitude Campaign appeals to my uber-patriotic side. Thanking service personnel for the protection that they afford me everyday is appealing, but let’s face it..it’s hard and awkward. The Gratitude campaign provides you with a simple gesture (not American Sign Language gesture) that says “Thank-you”. As you can see from the picture above, it’s just a simple sign, a movement of your hand down and away from your heart that says, “Thank you”. It can be coupled with unspoken or spoken words. I have always wanted to say “Thank you” to every service person I meet, but frankly I didn’t want to embarrass them or keep them from whatever task they were on at the time. The Gratitude Campaign has provide all of us a way to say thanks, over and over and over.
The Gratitude Campaign Origin
Scott Truitt was searching for a way to say “Thanks” to the 100s of Military personnel that he passed in the airport and his everyday life each year. After some research, he discovered a gesture, similar to a salute, which originated in 18th century France, which through the motion literally translates to “Thank you from the bottom of my heart”. Scott’s vision is for this campaign to remain non-political . It is not the standard ASL sign for Thank-you which starts at the chin and could be construed but the uninformed as a derogatory. Instead, the hand starts from the heart and and the gesture is downward to show your heartfelt gratitude.
The Gratitude Campaign. It Starts with you!
Will you use it the next time you see a member of the United States Military? I am going to try. I mean if they can do what they do everyday, can’t I at the very least, recognize it?
This Blog Post is dedicated to my nephew Blake V., who serves in the Navy; to my father, Jerry B., who was a member of the National Guard; to my Uncle Tom who served; and to my friend Thomas, who served as a Navy Seal. I was not compensated in any manner for this post. It is provided as a reminder to my readers, to have Gratitude.

This is absolutely wonderful!! The service men and women are true heroes and should be shown gratitude in as many ways as possible.
I have Veterans in just about every part of my family, both current and extended. ‘Gratitude’ just seems too small a word to extend to them and the rest of the veterans.
Thank you for your service!
I’ll definitely try!
I agree with Katie these people that fight so hard deserve more than an athlete. I am thankful for all veterans, all that give up their lives, their time with their families, all of their sacrifices, while we at home take so many things for granted. Their imprint on our lives is forever.
we should be grateful everyday for our servicemen and women not just on Veterans day
I always have my children go up to a vet and thank them for keeping our country safe.
We pay a pittance to these brave men & women and then we lavish praise and money on celebrities and athletes. Our country has lost it’s moral compass
I’ve always felt this is one holiday that should never be diminished or not celebrated personally. The cost is great from those that serve and act from a deep conviction to preserve what others before them fought to give us. Remembering them everyday is the best action and I wish we did more for our veterans.
This is super easy to do, and as my grandfather served 25 years in the Navy, certainly something I’ll be practicing!
I love the cartoon. What a fantastic message!
“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” Thank you to all the heroes out there!
Thanks to all those who serve now and who have served in the past to keep our country free!
What a great campaign, I love it! It always makes me teary eyed when I see a bunch of people all joined together with love and appreciation for another group, heart warming!
I thank all of our soldiers for doing a great and wonderful job.
i work on an air force base and this will be perfect for me to say thank you for all they do for us…thanks for sharing this!
We don’t express our gratitude enough. Glad there’s a day to help us remember what our brave heroes do for us each and everyday. God bless and heartfelt thanks!
Love your gratitude post. We can’t wait for my brother-in-law to come and visit us from his base in California
Freedom isn’t free…thank you to all who have served.
What a nice way to honor the military! They deserve it.
