The Gratitude Campaign, A Simple Way to Say Thanks!

Use the Sign of the Gratitude Campaign
The Gratitude Campaign appeals to my uber-patriotic side. Thanking service personnel for the protection that they afford me everyday is appealing, but let’s face it..it’s hard and awkward. The Gratitude campaign provides you with a simple gesture (not American Sign Language gesture) that says “Thank-you”. As you can see from the picture above, it’s just a simple sign, a movement of your hand down and away from your heart that says, “Thank you”. It can be coupled with unspoken or spoken words. I have always wanted to say “Thank you” to every service person I meet, but frankly I didn’t want to embarrass them or keep them from whatever task they were on at the time. The Gratitude Campaign has provide all of us a way to say thanks, over and over and over.
The Gratitude Campaign Origin
Scott Truitt was searching for a way to say “Thanks” to the 100s of Military personnel that he passed in the airport and his everyday life each year. After some research, he discovered a gesture, similar to a salute, which originated in 18th century France, which through the motion literally translates to “Thank you from the bottom of my heart”. Scott’s vision is for this campaign to remain non-political . It is not the standard ASL sign for Thank-you which starts at the chin and could be construed but the uninformed as a derogatory. Instead, the hand starts from the heart and and the gesture is downward to show your heartfelt gratitude.
The Gratitude Campaign. It Starts with you!
Will you use it the next time you see a member of the United States Military? I am going to try. I mean if they can do what they do everyday, can’t I at the very least, recognize it?
This Blog Post is dedicated to my nephew Blake V., who serves in the Navy; to my father, Jerry B., who was a member of the National Guard; to my Uncle Tom who served; and to my friend Thomas, who served as a Navy Seal. I was not compensated in any manner for this post. It is provided as a reminder to my readers, to have Gratitude.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE VETERANS!!! YOU SACRIFICE SO MUCH TO DEFEND US AND OUR COUNTRY….YOU DESERVE MORE THAN JUST ONE DAY
this is a campaign I can get on board with!
Great post. My dad and stepdad served!
Veteran’s Day is highly overlooked. I appreciate your post. My grandfather served his country.
What a great way to express gratitude!
You should get paid more for wearing a helmet & defending your country than wearing a helmet & playing football.
We remember the brave men of yesterday
I think this is an awesome way to show thanks to our service men and women. It’s simple, anyone can do it, and it shows gratitude. Thanks for spreading the message about this.
We all owe all the service men and women, past and present. Mine came home from Vietnam to quietness. Since Michele Obama has made some changes for the vets and families and communities are doing more. No one should loose their home because the military pay is so low. The football game tonight had vets from all wars honored. As each person was shown, lines below gave the names and which war or conflict. It was a nice tribute with audience using cards to hold up with a message. A huge flag was stretched across the field.
I’m so thankful for all the troops! God Bless you all! and a special thanks to my family past and present who have served/is serving!
so very cool. my dad was a vet so this is close to home.
We should always give the highest honor to our Veterans!
Big Thanks to all that have served and sacrificed for our country… often I don’t think about this on a daily basis, so I am glad that we have a day to remind us of those that fought to protect our rights and freedoms… things we often take for granted-for this I am proud of my country and those that have served.
I want to say thank you to my brother, uncle, father in law for your service to the country and me.
I thank my 2 grandpas for serving in the Navy and Marines, my dad in the army, and 4 of my six brothers in the Navy, Army, Marines, and Air Force. Thank you Thank you Thank and I love all of you!
Thank you for fighting for my freedom and for my families freedom without even knowing us.
Brought tears to my eyes, thanks for the eye opening gesture, I will be sure to pass it on and THANK YOU to all of those who serve our country and give us the freedom that we so love.
I’m thankful for the freedoms we have in this country, but so sad that it has been at the cost of so many lives.
That is pretty darn neat. I hadn’t seen that before. I have not actually seen any service folks around here…at least not in uniform. If I do in the future I’ll know this.
I do a few who served in the past. I’m grateful they did.
Thank you all!
thank you to all servicemen and women, including my nephew and my son. We really appreciate what you are doing for all of us. we know that you have to go thru a lot of hardship so we can still live the way we live. thank you
I thank servicemen and women wherever I see them. I know some people are hesitant, though, to approach someone to give them their thanks. This is a wonderful substitute!
