Debut Country Album from Pete Scobell Band
Finding your Calling…your journey will get you there
When I was in high school, I thought I wanted to be a librarian. My parents had a different idea and had me apply to the local University (at the time called General Motor Institute, now called Kettering University). It turned out a good fit for me (imagine? My parents actually knew what was best for me!)
While getting my undergraduate degree and then while getting my MBA from the University of Chicago, I dabbled in theater and loved that. Enjoyment of the spotlight was surely something that brought me joy and I contemplated how I could incorporate being an actress into my life.
As usual though, life got in the way of a calling. There were jobs, multiple moves, children, a divorce, a remarriage and a blended family to raise. At 49 of years of age, as things started to settle down, a chance viewing of the movie “Julie/Julia” (about a blogger named Julie and the renowned Amrecian Chef, Julia Child) coupled with a free weekend, birthed this blog. Finally as a blogger, I had a spotlight, like the actress I aspired to be and subjects to organize, like the librarian I had always wanted to be.

Like me, Pete Scobell took a circuitous route to get to his calling. As a 17 year veteran and celebrated Navy Seal, Pete was injured during one of his many tours of duty overseas. As a result, he suffered a traumatic brain injury. Pete’s doctors encouraged him to play music as part of his treatment and recovery plan. Music had been a hobby for Pete most of his life, plus Pete’s mother was a musician and he had inherited her instruments. On their advice, Pete used his music to heal and find his calling.

Pete Scobell along with his band have now released their debut country album, “Walkin A Wire“. Themes the Pete Scobell band have incorporated into this album include loss, life after the military, and supporting our veterans in their endeavors once they return to civilian life. With his music’s diversity and relatability, it has the potential to strike a chord with audiences across America.

I learned that Pete’s mom was a music teacher who died when he was a baby.
I learned that Pete was a Navy Seal and was injured during duty. During rehab, his doctor told him to try music therapy. That was a bit prophetic because Pete’s mom died when he was very young and she was a music teacher. As a young boy, he learned to play many of the musical instruments she left him when she died. He later had a skiing accident and went back to music during that stent in rehab. He decided to stay with music, eventually doing this album.
I learned that Pete Scobell is a celebrated Navy SEAL, competitive skier and athlete, and a mountain climber in addition to being a musician.
His determination is truly inspiring!
I learned that Pete had been a Navy Seal
Wynonna Judd’s band Big Noise plays back-up on his album.
I’ve learned that he recorded the song Hearts I Leave Behind, featuring Wynonna, to honor a former teammate, “American Sniper” Chris Kyle.
Sounds like a great album. I also love that he has had such an amazing life prior to this musical chapter. I also love that the guitar has always been his friend through the years. Very cool story.
I learned that his guitar was Pete Scobell’s only constant companion while traveling the world.
I learned Pete Scobell is a celebrated Navy SEAL.
I learned Pete Scobell focuses on helping others
I learned that Wynona Judd gave him the encouragement he needed to do the thing he was gifted with, music. It sounds like he has a lot to offer to his listneners.
I love how music therapy helped him so much!
One of the songs on the album is Friends with Money.
Thanks for the contest.
I learned that Pete Scobell grew up feeling closer to his mother – whom he never knew – by playing her instruments that were left behind!
I learned that there’s 12 songs on the album and you can hear a sample of all of them on iTunes.
His Mom passed away when he was 10 months old. She had been a music teacher. She left him
all her instruments. He was trying to feel close to her and leaned how to play.
I learned that Pete Scobell is a Navy SEAL, competitive skier and athlete, mountain climber, inspiration and advocate…crazy!! Is there anything this man can’t do?? He’s also very handsome ????
The 12 songs on Walkin a Wire are the work of an accomplished singer
I learned that Pete Scobell is a former Navy SEAL. How neat!
