Walt and I went shopping on Friday to a fancy mall in Troy, Michigan called the Somerset Collection. He wanted to go to the Apple store there to ask some questions about his iPhone5s. The Apple Store is huge there and it was a mad house! It made me want to pick up some Apple stock, seriously.
The mall is a perfect place to take indoor outfit shots during Michigan’s dreary fall days.
How to wear a plaid shirt in the winter? Wear plaid in holiday colors and couple it with lots of bling!
When we left the house, I said to Walt, “Do you think this outfit has too much bling?” He quickly replied, “No! I think the plaid shirt gives it a casual feel, but it still looks dressy.” I wasn’t convinced but I kept it on due to his enthusiasm!
Surprise! As I shopped, while he was in the Apple store, I had no less than 5 people tell me they liked some aspect of my outfit: the necklace, my lipstick, or the shirt. Now I have worn this outfit before (all black) without the red plaid shirt, and received nary a compliment, so I am sure it was the pop of red plaid from the Foxcroft shirt that got me all the attention.
We took the next shot in a long covered “walking sidewalk” overpass that connects two sides of the Somerset collection over a major street.
I show you this for two reasons. One is that I want to illustrate that your fashion pictures as a fashion blogger are still possible in the winter, you just have to be creative. Second, I think it’s fun as a reader sometimes, to understand where we are and what we did to get the shots you see.
This plaid blouse is part of Foxcroft’s Holiday Checklist collection. Haven’t checked out Foxcroft lately? You will be surprised! They still have the same high quality but the look of their products along with updated social media makes them a force to be considered. Women over 45 (and all our younger friends) should check out our blog article or head over to Foxcroft to view their Holiday Checklist.

You really do look so festive! I love the outfit and agree that the red makes the black look even better. Gorgeous photos!
Plaid is awesome! Red or green plaids are very chic during the holidays. I have a long taffeta red plaid skirt that I like to wear at Christmas.
I love plaid. I would absolutely wear holiday plaid.
I love plaid and especially a red plaid. My favorite plaid is the Black Watch Plaid. I would wear the leggings like you or skinny jeans. You look great Shelley. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!
I always wear plaid with my blue jeans & Ariat boots.. But I always wear a scarf and some type of shirt underneath the plaid..
By the way– you look great..
And thank you for all the giveaways!!
Thanks for the compliement Tania. The Chief Blonde
I always consider it.
It goes great with the leather boots and jacket!
I actually don’t own any plaid. I have just never been drawn to it. HOWEVER, I think you look stunning and I love the way this outfit looks on you. I am definitely considering and now want to incorporate some plaid in to my wardrobe. Thank you!! 🙂
I think that plaid is great during the holidays. Nice, appealing and warm!
I just love plaids in the fall looks great in skirts too tops to scarves
So glad you stopped in today Tammy. Shelley
I love the way you paired the plaid with the rest of your outfit. I usually just throw it on with some jeans! I always consider plaid, it looks cute!
Thanks Lisa! The Chief Blonde
I have always liked a little bit of plaid. I love it as a trim on a dark item.
I also love the mall. We have a couple in New Orleans that are very stunning, but this one looks more elegant.
Love the outfit!!! Love plaid. ANd that mall looks pretty spectacular too!
I do not know maybe!!
You managed to pull off plaid without looking like you’re a lumberjack, off to a mosh pit, or a over-done Christmas fiend…. nice job!
Thanks SD! BAHAHAHA. Lumberjack.
I already have a plaid shirt and a pleather collarless moto jacket but I love the addition of the sequin shirt.
I like plaid but can only wear it as a scarf or poncho not on the bottom. I like your plaid looks very nice and youre right, Michigan winters you want to be inside.
Love the plaid. It looks fantastic. I also totally love the mall. I am envious. We don’t have nice malls where I live and when I get the opportunity to be at a nice mall like the one in your pictures I feel like I have died and gone to heaven. I probably should’t admit that.
So glad you stopped by Ines. It really IS that kind of mall. The Chief Blonde
Good for you! I can’t imagine my husband using “casual feel”and “dressy” in the same sentence when referring to my clothes :)! Or responding to an inquiry about too much bling…. You look great Shelley!
HAHAHAHAH RUTH. But I bet your husband can solve puzzles. You know, they do what they have to do. Shelley
That looks so cute! Love plaid.
