Did my Life get too Cluttered?
Blog Note: I have severely disappointed one of my readers, maybe more and I am sorry. I started this declutter challenge back in Jan., 2011. We had 3 months worth of prizes added to the pile and a nice group of readers jumped on board and participated enthusiastically. Then my life took over (one kid graduating high school out of state plus open house, one graduating college, sick mom, another kid moved out, high school senior went to college, 2 kids got licences, a wedding, a bridal shower, yada-yada-yada! ) Anywho, I let the ball drop on this and I am sorry! Especially to my dear reader who is upset with me. But the challenge isn’t ruined yet…we have this month to get caught up!
So Let’s Catch up!
Anyway the deal was, you were supposed to declutter one item everyday for 365 days. Then you were supposed to give your input every month into how you were doing as your entry and I would add a prize to the pile each month. You guys did an awesome job of commenting in the first three months.

Decluttering the basement is a HUGE problem because it becomes the “not sure what to do with this” space AND everything has to be “up off the floor” for fear of water loss (flooding during downpours), which would probably help just get rid of stuff. But I’m not looking for that to happen.
i gave away more than $365 dollars worth of designer clothing!!
TIME stands in the way of my decluttering.
I ask myself before I toss anything out: “will I use this in 6 months??”
Don’t motivate to declutter. Just DO! When you think about it is when it will never happen.
My decluttering tip is put the stuff you actually USE close by or towards the front.
My culprit of clutter is ME…I can’t blame my cat for everything.
DEcluttering the garage has always been a nightmare. With 8 people in the household it seems we never get a grip on it.
Not only did I get rid of 365 things I actually got rid of at least twice that much.
I still have more to do but I’ve made a huge dent!!
I’m the only person standing in my way. I live alone and my children are always after me to get rid of things.
There are 3 things that motivate me to keep something. I don’t know if one has more weight than another.
1 – I have intentions to use it later – fabric for quilts, yarn for knitting, screw & nails for fixing things.
2 – It was a gift. I hate to hurt someone’s feelings by throwing their gift away (even if it doesn’t work and is 20 years old lol )
3 – Value. I have things I want to sell but just haven’t had the time or opportunity to do so.
Motivation for me is difficult. The best thing is to stop in a doorway and say to myself “What does this look like to a visitor?” If the answer would embarrass me then I know I need to get busy!
My CLUTTER HOTSPOT is my entire house. I have no attic or basement and very little closet space!
Store things where you can see them. Boxes stacked in the back of a closet or in the garage is a way to end up with duplicate items or worse yet, damaged items.
My biggest decluttering Challenge in the past year has been my craft room. It is too small.
My closet. UGH. Getting rid of all my clothes that don’t fit…and being honest with myself…will never fit again lol. That was hard.
all the coupons under my bed 🙁
whenever I see pictures of beautiful homes it inspires me to declutter
I think that if you set goals, and only keep things you need… decluttering is simple 🙂
that biggest factor that makes me keep something is sentimental value…
