Did my Life get too Cluttered?
Blog Note: I have severely disappointed one of my readers, maybe more and I am sorry. I started this declutter challenge back in Jan., 2011. We had 3 months worth of prizes added to the pile and a nice group of readers jumped on board and participated enthusiastically. Then my life took over (one kid graduating high school out of state plus open house, one graduating college, sick mom, another kid moved out, high school senior went to college, 2 kids got licences, a wedding, a bridal shower, yada-yada-yada! ) Anywho, I let the ball drop on this and I am sorry! Especially to my dear reader who is upset with me. But the challenge isn’t ruined yet…we have this month to get caught up!
So Let’s Catch up!
Anyway the deal was, you were supposed to declutter one item everyday for 365 days. Then you were supposed to give your input every month into how you were doing as your entry and I would add a prize to the pile each month. You guys did an awesome job of commenting in the first three months.

the only thing that stands in the way of decluttering is myself
no, I did not get rid of 365 things… 🙁
my cousins that live with me cause clutter !
my closet is a clutter hot spot
My biggest decluttering challenge is easily my master bedroom closet.
Did you get rid of 365 things this year?
Um, hard to answer, I traveled a bit so those days, no I didn’t get rid of things from home. But most other days, yes.
Who stands in your way from decluttering?
My kids and myself!
What’s the biggest factor that makes you KEEP something versus throwing it OUT?
1. Feeling sentimental about something, or:
2. Thinking someday I’ll use it again or need it!
I motivate myself by telling myself how much I’ll enjoy the area after I am done and how much more room I will have.
My best tip is this: Do one small area a day, keep it clean, and then tomorrow do another small area, and so on. Soon your whole house will be decluttered.
Also, when you get stuff together for the Goodwill, or the trash, get rid of it immediately. Out of sight, out of mind!
One last tip is to buy a medium sized plastic container and let yourself have that to keep those sentimental things that you just can’t get rid of. But only allow yourself that one container, and no more. This helps you choose what you have to keep and what you can get rid of. Good luck!
My kids cause the most clutter, hands down!
My favorite Decluttering Tip would be this: To not feel overwhelmed, declutter one small area, keep it clean and then another area on a different day, and so on.
Our clutter Hot Spot would be the table by the front door, where everyone dumps whatever they seem to be carrying when they walk in the front door.
My biggest decluttering challange would be our spare room! It’s filled with furntiure, my scrapbooking stuff and my husbands tools, and all of it pretty disorganized!
My living room is my clutter hotspot right now because i have a2 year old that has more toys then any kid i know
The hardest thing to declutter is my desk
I probably didn’t get 365 things decluttered, but at least I got rid of some, and what I kept I organized a bit better!
My boyfriend stands in the way of my decluttering, because I feel like every time I clean something, he messes it up immediately! But he works really hard too and doesn’t have that much time to clean either, so it’s hard to be a hypocrite.
If I keep something it’s because it’s meaningful…or because I think it might be useful for someone. But I have an actual box for donations that I take down every so often 🙂
I motivate myself to declutter by occasionally watching those crazy “hoarder” shows on tv and scaring myself into cleaning 🙂
