Samsung brings us SUHD TV. What’s that?
Breaking down 4K, Ultra HD, SUHD — What is SUHD?
I was asked by Best Buy recently to check out the Samsung SUHD TVs. I was curious because I had never heard of SUHD, UHD nor 4K TVs. While some may argue SUHD, UHD and 4K are all fairly interchangeable in consumer-speak, there are differences. This is what I discovered after a little research.
- 4k: 4K is expected to replace 1080p as the highest-resolution signal available for in-home movies and television. 4K’s arrival has added a fourth main resolution standard (2160p) on top of the 3 already available standards for inhome use: standard definition (480p/540p) , high definition (720p), full high definition (1080i/p)
- UHD: UHD is the official TV industry term for Ultra High Definition, partly defined as resolutions of at least 3,840x 2,160 pixels.
- SUHD: What is SUHD? SUHD is Samsung’s brand name behind its new range of 4K Ultra HD TVs. Samsung 4K SUHD TV reveals more colors and a brighter picture – all powered by a revolutionary panel featuring the technology that sets Samsung apart: Nano-crystal technology. The immersive curved screen portrays a greater sense of depth.
Experience SUHD TV to see what it’s all about!
There is really no way to capture in a picture or video what SUHD looks like or how it compares to your current TV resolution. You really have to see it in person. Luckily, most Best Buys have a special Samsung SUHD TV viewing area where you can experience and see the difference of 4k technology and view content on Samsung SUHD by watching an exclusive Jurassic World clip.
Let me tell you, the experience was incredible. With a 4k feed, the colors are insane! The immersive nature makes you feel like you are walking the Jurassic World park.
Limited Time Only!
PSST! Don’t miss out. For a limited time you can see the Jurassic World clip and save up to $1500 on Samsung SUHD TVs at Best Buy stores May 31st – June 13th.

I have always wondered what those letters meant. Sorry I missed the twitter party. Now I know we can go to Best Buy and check out the difference in the types. Thanks for the information!
I am going to have to do some big time savings, if I want to buy this TV!!! And, I would love to buy one! I am a tv-a-holic!!!
These sound so awesome, I would love to have one the picture sounds incredible!!
me i like the tv i have flat screen do not need a ll the fancy thing any more
I am so confused by all the tech names things have. When I go to buy anything “techie” I have my son who understands this stuff go with me. Your explanation above was easy for that stuff but I mean the harder stuff he needs to help me with. I’m techie illiterate! LOL
The picture quality looks amazing! I’d love to buy one of these for our house!
All of the TVs in our house are Samsung, we love them and I knew they had a 4K but I had no idea they were rolling out an entire line.
I have been eye balling this tv. I would love to bring one home with me.
Hubby and I were checking these out at our last best buy visit!! They are so cool!! You really get to see the WHOLE picture and the depth is amazing!! The price tag was not so amazing lol 😉
Wow… That would be amazing to have in my bedroom, my kids would never leave..Lol
I still remember when 720p high definition was the best speed/pixels for TVs around & we were in the market for a TV. I thought we were so lucky to have the latest and greatest!! My husband is a HUGE sports TV watcher. If I tell him about this, we will be visiting Best Buy this weekend! The last time we bought a TV, it was 65″ & 1080i/p. He was going to buy a plasma TV, but the guy at Best Buy told him that they were on their way out, because of how hot they got. This time, I am amazed at the great picture quality!! The fire, etc. looks so real & the dinosaur looks like it’s jumping out of the TV towards you!! I am in Best Buy’s reward program so I usually buy my techy stuff from there. They have great warranties also!! Thanks for the info!
We’re moving to a new home soon (hopefully…..if our house ever sells!) I’d love to get my husband a new SUHD TV to celebrate his promotion and new home!
Given that I can’t see the difference between regular TV and HDTV with my bad eyes I doubt I’d see the difference with this TV. I’m blind as a bat….grrrrr. It is amazing though how TV technology has advanced.
I went to Best Buy and saw the SUHD TVs and they were awesome. I want one now so badly! When we replace our TV, it will definitely be with one of these!
Crazy that my TV is only a few years old and it’s basically obsolete already. Samsung makes great gear, I’ve always loved their monitors.
I’m just so seriously impressed with how quickly the quality of television viewing is becoming. Samsung is a quality brand and, yes, my next purchase will be one of these higher-quality items.
OMG – these colors are amazing! I want to go to the store by me to check it out!
That picture looks awesome so yes, I’d consider SUHD, provided it’s not crazy expensive. I love the new curved screens too!
This TV looks amazing! What a great addition to our family room. Thanks for explaining what SUHD is, because I honestly had no idea. We’re going to go to Best Buy to check it out in person!
Your post here gave me such a chuckle (at myself). I’m in the market for a new TV and am baffled by all the different types like you mention. How in the world does someone like me just find a new, flat-screen, plain TV, with no “smart-this, smart-that”, 4K, suhd, etc.? Honestly, I don’t know what any of that means and I know I don’t need it. I don’t have cable TV nor a smart phone. Happily out of touch with the current new-tech mania!
