Samsung brings us SUHD TV. What’s that?
Breaking down 4K, Ultra HD, SUHD — What is SUHD?
I was asked by Best Buy recently to check out the Samsung SUHD TVs. I was curious because I had never heard of SUHD, UHD nor 4K TVs. While some may argue SUHD, UHD and 4K are all fairly interchangeable in consumer-speak, there are differences. This is what I discovered after a little research.
- 4k: 4K is expected to replace 1080p as the highest-resolution signal available for in-home movies and television. 4K’s arrival has added a fourth main resolution standard (2160p) on top of the 3 already available standards for inhome use: standard definition (480p/540p) , high definition (720p), full high definition (1080i/p)
- UHD: UHD is the official TV industry term for Ultra High Definition, partly defined as resolutions of at least 3,840x 2,160 pixels.
- SUHD: What is SUHD? SUHD is Samsung’s brand name behind its new range of 4K Ultra HD TVs. Samsung 4K SUHD TV reveals more colors and a brighter picture – all powered by a revolutionary panel featuring the technology that sets Samsung apart: Nano-crystal technology. The immersive curved screen portrays a greater sense of depth.
Experience SUHD TV to see what it’s all about!
There is really no way to capture in a picture or video what SUHD looks like or how it compares to your current TV resolution. You really have to see it in person. Luckily, most Best Buys have a special Samsung SUHD TV viewing area where you can experience and see the difference of 4k technology and view content on Samsung SUHD by watching an exclusive Jurassic World clip.
Let me tell you, the experience was incredible. With a 4k feed, the colors are insane! The immersive nature makes you feel like you are walking the Jurassic World park.
Limited Time Only!
PSST! Don’t miss out. For a limited time you can see the Jurassic World clip and save up to $1500 on Samsung SUHD TVs at Best Buy stores May 31st – June 13th.

We have a 55 KS8000 series FXZA LED.
We love it. I’m giving each of my four grown children one.
I don’t have an overwhelming desire to get an SUHD or 4K tv. Until the majority of media reaches that kind of resolution, it seems a waste to spend the money.
Curved tvs suck.
I am considering an SUHD in the near future. I currently own three Samsung televisions and like their quality and dependability. I am looking for a 60-inch screen. I am NOT interested in curved or 3-D. I am 74 years old and 3-D is not good by my eyes. While the curved tv is nice, one has to sit directly in front of it or lose the picture.
Can to explain to me the difference between the SUHD, 4 K, ULtra, etc?
I am just in the decision of buying TV ?? SUHD or UHD 4K will it make any difference except higher price 3 x but slightly better resolution… any opinion pl
Thanks for the info did not know this
thank u for the info
Never heard of SUHD before either. Thank you for the explanation.
Wow, I am so glad you took the time to break these down. I for one, had no ideal what some of these meant! It is like technology is creating a whole new language of it’s own.
It’s still all really confusing to me. I’ll let my husband and my son’s figure it out whether we get it or not
I haven’t experienced one of Samsung’s curved SUHD 4K HD televisions. I hear good things about the color and brightness. I’d like to know whether the curved screen is more immersive, or whether it’s annoying. This is where the traditional brick and mortar store shines. You can try before you buy.
Thank you for explaining the differences. They keep adding all these new types of TVs and it’s hard to make heads or tails of what it all means. You made it all make sense.
I am interested in buy a TV in 4k SUHD or UHD format in the next 4 months, Pls advise.
Thanks for the explanation of the differences!

Wow what a lot to take in for someone who is a tech newbie. I suppose I will understand in time.
