What do I do? Amwell Makes it Easy to Talk to a Doctor…First Visit $1

November 20, 2015 By Shelley Zurek 55 Comments

Are you Panicking? Have a Urgent Care Need?

Today’s conversation is sponsored by Amwell.

Amwell

The Chief Blonde has a medical concern at 9:12PM.  Who wants to wait until morning?

Amwell can ease your mind

You’ve had it happen. And when it does happen, it’s always on the weekend, late at a night or a holiday. You feel sick or worried and you need to talk to a doctor to ease your mind. Sure, sometimes you can wait to get answers until your doctor’s office opens, but sometimes you just can’t wait. So you go to an emergency room or urgent care. Uggh, I can’t even. But we all know that’s the very last alternative when you need medical answers now. Or is it?

I was recently introduced to Amwell, which is the nation’s largest telehealth company, connecting users with board-certified, licensed doctors, dietitians and psychologists for immediate and live, online visits—day or night, on either mobile or desktop. They are available 24/7, with doctors always available to talk to you about such things as bronchitis, cough, sinus infection, sore throat, urinary tract, infection, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, pinkeye, flu, sprains and strains, cold, respiratory infection, headache, depression, anxiety, weight concerns, and smoking cessation.

It’s Easy to Talk to Doctors from your Home

So how easy is it to use a telehealth service? It took me 1 minute to log-in, 2 minutes to download a video viewing app, 2 minutes to fill out my health survey and profile, and 1 minute to upload a picture of my issues.

Amwell

I then goofed around doing blogging things and watching TV and then I was finally ready to talk to the doctor at 12:30 am. So I came back and choose an available doctor.

Screen shot of providers

Because I goofed around, I had to re-enter some of my medical information but I liked that because I felt they were respecting my privacy. When the doctor came on the screen, she was very helpful. I actually had a concern which involved further testing, but she told me exactly what kind of doctor to go to and said she wouldn’t bill me for the service! (I had a coupon code and I have one for you and the end of this article too!)

Watch this short video to see the service in action:

Here’s the reasons I prefer Amwell:

  • Quick Prescriptions. The doctor can order your medicine right to your pharmacy and it will be ready when you get there.
  • Instead of worrying all night, getting bad information from some forum, or heading to the ER, I can just call Amwell and get seen by a real doctor who can help me with my issues.
  • Lower cost. Online visits to Amwell are a real cost saving. In-office visits often cost $82 for first-time patients according to the Healthcare Blue Book, Amwell offers a $49 physician visit – a savings of $33.

Try Amwell yourself for $1!

Simply log on to Amwell.com or call 1-844-SEE-DOCS (1-844-733-3627) to connect with board-certified doctors in your area. Use my special code BEWELL9 for a $1 doctor’s visit.  (That’s a $48 Freebie folks!)

This sounds like a great concept. I think families with more than one child could really benefit from this type of service since you wouldn’t have to take all the kids with you when you have a doctor appt for just one of them.

I love the sounds of this service and wish they offered it in Canada. Sometimes you just to talk to a professional but don’t need to go into the office.

That sounds like a great tool to have! It is horrible to have to wait around in a doctor’s office with a sick child.

Amwell seems like a service that is needed. Nobody likes to sit in the emergency room for hours only to find out it was something that could have been taken care of at home.

I love this idea so much. Having 6 kids, when I have an ear ache or an issue I hate having to drag them with me to be seen so this would be such a better option!

I recently used Amwell for the first time- I was very surprised how easy it was to get myself set up. I think I will be using them again for some therapy and counseling!

It’s so cool that you can speak to a doctor for pretty much any issue. I would definitely use this for a quick consultation.

This is such a great idea. I need something convenient because my primary care physician is about a 40 minute drive and not the easiest to visit.

There are so many times when you waver between the ER and waiting until the morning. This would nip that issue in the bud!

I used Amwell for my daughter a few month’s ago. She had a bad rash and we had no idea what to do. The Amwell doctor told us what it was ans what to do and we loved the personal experience.

I am literally sick right now, but I don’t want to spend the money to go to the DR. I will have to check into this for me.

Interesting how you upload a picture that would help them get a better idea. This time of year there is a lot of sickness going around, and you often don’t feel like you have time to go to the doctor or know if you really need to. A great way to bring a doctor to you and give you a better idea of what your issues are.

This sounds like a great service. I would definitely use it if I couldn’t get out of the house to see my actual doctor for some reason.
