The Gratitude Campaign, A Simple Way to Say Thanks!

Use the Sign of the Gratitude Campaign
The Gratitude Campaign appeals to my uber-patriotic side. Thanking service personnel for the protection that they afford me everyday is appealing, but let’s face it..it’s hard and awkward. The Gratitude campaign provides you with a simple gesture (not American Sign Language gesture) that says “Thank-you”. As you can see from the picture above, it’s just a simple sign, a movement of your hand down and away from your heart that says, “Thank you”. It can be coupled with unspoken or spoken words. I have always wanted to say “Thank you” to every service person I meet, but frankly I didn’t want to embarrass them or keep them from whatever task they were on at the time. The Gratitude Campaign has provide all of us a way to say thanks, over and over and over.
The Gratitude Campaign Origin
Scott Truitt was searching for a way to say “Thanks” to the 100s of Military personnel that he passed in the airport and his everyday life each year. After some research, he discovered a gesture, similar to a salute, which originated in 18th century France, which through the motion literally translates to “Thank you from the bottom of my heart”. Scott’s vision is for this campaign to remain non-political . It is not the standard ASL sign for Thank-you which starts at the chin and could be construed but the uninformed as a derogatory. Instead, the hand starts from the heart and and the gesture is downward to show your heartfelt gratitude.
The Gratitude Campaign. It Starts with you!
Will you use it the next time you see a member of the United States Military? I am going to try. I mean if they can do what they do everyday, can’t I at the very least, recognize it?
This Blog Post is dedicated to my nephew Blake V., who serves in the Navy; to my father, Jerry B., who was a member of the National Guard; to my Uncle Tom who served; and to my friend Thomas, who served as a Navy Seal. I was not compensated in any manner for this post. It is provided as a reminder to my readers, to have Gratitude.

Thanks to all the Veterans for keeping us safe!
What a wonderful post! I love to see others recognizing Veterans – it’s something we need to do more.
Thank you to all of the men and women in the armed forces. We have several in our family, and thanks just never feels like enough
That’s really neat! My kids all sign and I am super excited to show them this when they get up from their naps. We’ll be able to practice this weekend when we see my cousins and uncles too!
Coming from a military familly,as well as being a veteran myself (US Navy) thank you for this website. I now reside in a city with an Air Force base and get to use this sign of appreciation quite often, as well as having the opportunity on rare occassions to do something special for one of our service members. But the best feeling of all, is being a blue star mother, originally to my daughter and now to her husband, both who serve in the Air National Guard.
No matter the reason for your enlistment- we all thank you for your sevice
Every day should be veteran’s day- We should remember how we got to be such a great nation and those that make it possible.- THANK YOU ALL_ VETERANS AND THE FAMILIES
My father is a vet and i was raised in the military life and i have the upmost respect for vets and how they sacrifice for our freedom
I admire these selfless patriots and their loved ones that sacrifice so much.
Veteran’s Day is so important, so that we remember to give thanks to our vets for everything they have fought for in order for us to live a free life!
Thank you!
I want to thank my beautiful boyfriend for his service in the Army and all the men and women who serve!!
I’m so very thankful to all the Vets who have made it possible for me to enjoy life as much as I do. We owe you so much and thanks seems so simple.. but it truly comes from the heart. Thank you.
I wasn’t in a position this year to do anything to honor our vets other than by saying thanks while watching the news programs.

I didn’t know this! Thank you for posting about it. I will be doing it next time I see someone in the service!
Please do tell a service member thank you! My husband has 14 years in and still going. Some thank yous have brought tears to his eyes, after 5 deployments he says there’s nothing better .than knowing someone appreciates his service.
My oldest son served in the Navy. Here in the states, when you work in a dangerous job, you get ‘hazard pay’. Our people in the service don’t get that kind of pay, and they don’t get paid enough. They lay their lives on the line every day. We should be more considerate, and thankful of and for them. All those men and women are someone’s son or daughter, wife or husband, mother or father!
What a great post! It’s great to see such a heartfelt post. Thank you for reminding those that might forget <3
Veterans Day is very important for me, my dad was Army for over 20 years. He is now retired.
