Posing and Rosacea don’t mix!
Face it! I am a life style blogger. I have to be ready to have my picture taken at the drop of a hat. If there’s a good shot…I am posing.
But…face it! I have rosacea. What is rosacea? It’s a chronic, inflammatory skin disease where sufferers may struggle with bumps, redness and pimples on their face. You can see why I want to cover this up right? It’s certainly not attractive at least not to me…
In fact, I take my concealer with me most everywhere I go. I am constantly checking my face and touching up, as needed.
Maybe I should stop covering up and deal with rosacea?
I finally decided I needed to go see my doctor about my rosacea and stop just covering up the problem with concealer.
Dr. Doris Day, board certified NYC Dermatologist and Galderma consultant has provided some lifestyle tips for dealing with rosacea.
- Catch up on your Zs-Yes, getting enough sleep can be rejuvenating and reinvigorating to your skin. (One of my issues…I never get enough sleep)
- Watch what you eat-Alcohol and sugary or processed foods should be avoided as possible. (Guess I better re-evaluate that nightly glass of red wine?)
- Track your triggers–
- The most common triggers include: sun, extreme temperature changes, spicy food, exercise and stress (exercise really makes my rosacea go nuts)
- Patients should also be aware that microscopic, typically harmless Demodex mites may also be a possible culprit (I believe these are a real issue for me)
- Choose your products wisely–
- Read ingredients and avoid potential irritants such as alcohol, fragrance and menthol
- Be gentle—harsh scrubs and astringent can irritate sensitive skin
- Look for mineral sunscreens with titanium oxide and moisturizers that are specifically developed for sensitive skin
See your Doctor-I highly recommend this step. Your doctor can recommend a great treatment plan for your diagnosis.

Cetaphil® Moisturizing Cream is the basis for Soolantra Cream and it’s fragrance-free, mild, non-irritating formula avoids common rosacea irritants.

My best friend through high school had rosacea and it made her awfully socially nervous. For her it has subsided with age but tends to flare up during particularly stressful times- like her sister’s wedding! How terrible to feel self conscious during such a special event. I’ll definitely refer her to ask about Soolantra!
Thanks for sharing this! I have rosacea and I too don’t go anywhere without concealer on!
My daughter is only 10 and she rosacea. So, I know what that is like to deal with. Glad you found something to help.
Working in the medical field, I’ve known a lot of people with Rosacea. Looks like SUCH a great concealer!
Rosacea or no rosacea, I think you’re absolutely beautiful and photogenic no matter what! I have a few members in my family who suffer from this, so I understand how difficult it can be.
Thank you Kelly! Shelley
This sounds like a great concealer!! It is so important to have a good concealer it’s crucial in my makeup bag.
I have heard of rosacea before. I don’t have it, but I can only imagine how some may feel with it. My youngest has eczema, and I feel for her because of all the redness. I know makeup like these products can really help hide all the redness too.
Wow, that is some awesome stuff. My sister suffers with rosacea and she needs this!
You are beautiful with or without makeup! I did not know of this treatment. My face gets red more then it used to and I wonder if I have this too? I have to check into this more. Thank you. This was very helpful!
You know, my best friend growing up had such issues with rosacea and I had no idea it was a real thing. I remember how she hated close up photos and was always checking the mirror. Thanks for all the tips. I will have to keep them in mind
This sounds like such a hassle to have! Thankfully, your’s is not bad at all and a little makeup or this cream can even it out.
I don’t wear any makeup because I have such sensitive skin. I think I need to do more research. I just might be experiencing rosacea.
I had no idea that rosacea was so common or that it could be triggered. It definitely reminds me of a few other skin sensitivities I struggle with, such as eczema.
My friend suffers from this she hates it! I will have to tell her about this cream.
My mother has Rosacea and has taught me about the foods that are best for her to avoid eating. I will have to talk to her doctor about Soolantra to see if it’s a good medication for her to try.
Didn’t know there was treatment for this, so good to know! Wow, I sure could use a spa vacation too!!
Well head over there and enter Tara! ANd yes the treatment is surprisingly simple. The Chief Blonde
My daughter has similar issues due to PCOS. I think she is beautiful with or without makeup!
It’s all personal and I have seen your daughter—SHE IS! Shelley
And, no hot water, no rubbing your face with towel or wash cloth.
You think your face is red in that picture? You should see how mine gets. It looks like I have a sunburn or rouge on. And, before I went grey, my hair was really dark brown, not light like yours. The red looks lovely with the grey. (JK).
Yes, I have soooo many tips Linda. But there are ways to deal with it. The Soolatra has really helped me with the bumps. I wonder if I killed off all the parasites? Shelley
My aunt actually has really bad rosacea. I am going to tell her about this for sure.
Yes Robin, Gladerma has some options to try. Shelley
I am the same way with mine but because of acne 😛 Such a pain!! Maybe one day I’ll be lucky enough to go without it!!
