Some people gave helpful alternatives to painting, so that I wouldn’t even consider painting.
“Go Ahead and Paint”
Others encouraged me to pick up the paint brush and “Go Ahead and Paint”,
From the Experts
Apparently I should KNOW BETTER …many people are experts via Antique Roadshow,
Available
I could have sold this piece (if I owned it), many people wanted to buy the piece that I was considering painting.
Sinner? Nuts?
A large proportion are willing to resort to name calling or violence to keep me from painting the piece, at the very least they feel I am committing a sin!
A blogger friend of mine, Keenly Kristin discussed this trend further in her brilliant article “What People Care About“. Make sure to read it for a good laugh and some thought provoking views on Facebook!

My favorite is the “Don’t you watch Antique Road Show?” Too funny, but I agree. I wouldn’t paint it.

Beautiful piece of furniture/ I would paint it maybe give it somewhat of a distressed look to it.

That cupboard truly is a beautiful piece and if it had the pieces inside as well it would truly be a treasure! It’s amazing how many people looked and how many had an opinion on it! I would never paint such a beautiful piece either!!

I like it just the way it is, it’s really lovely.

I’m loving this! How many friends did that person have that so many people saw it and then commented? And why are people so adamant about it?!
This is awesome, yet also makes me wonder if people have too much free time. Fun post!
FYI: I’m visiting from the blog hop.

Haha! This post cracks me up because I saw this post on my personal FB page! One of my IRL friends had commented on it and it was in my timeline. As there are absolutely no known connections between my two accounts (they’re even based in two different countries), I really thought it was wild that I should see your post there. AND I noticed how incredibly popular it was! Really funny how that can happen. I’ll bet you had nooo idea when you posted it, huh?? The Chief Blonde goes viral!! 😉

Hmmm, fascinating how so many would resort to violence over a decorating decision.
Fascinating how many people had such a strong opinion on a decorating decision.

This is awesome that it went viral!! I would say NO paint!

It looks to be made from quarter-sawn oak. Unless the cabinet was originally painted, I would leave it with the stain. If you’re not concerned with retaining the value or “ruining” an antique, do what you want when you buy it. I however, would feel guilty to paint something not made to be painted–but that’s just me.

SO funny because I came “this close” to posting on Facebook (and that’s something I rarely ever do). I’m gonna toss my vote in; I say no paint/no way/no how. 🙂
Karen Albert says
Ha too much. I would paint it! Oh no, now they will come after me with the choking etc.

I just love all the buzz around this one post. Some folks gave you some great ideas. Cracks me up that some people felt so strongly to use foul language. I was a “don’t paint” vote, but had no great tips.

Just goes to show opinions are like….hahaha Everyone had to chime in and it went viral! It would be interesting to see the shares that had the biggest impact, but we’ll never know!
