On the Record with Mick Rock
coming to Ovation TV 8/2 at 8PM ET
Mick Rock premieres with an original spin on the musician profile series
Oh! We are all in for musical treat! Mick Rock is as famous for capturing iconic images of ’70s rock stars as he is today, photographing the up-and-coming of the music industry. He now takes his insights to a new level, hosting a MUST SEE series that takes a new twist on musician interviews. Premiering 8/2 at 8:00PM ET on Ovation TV, I will be glued to my set for his can’t-miss interview with Josh Groban. Special Bonus: We get to hear Josh sing as well!
The premise of the series, On the Record with Mick Rock, is Mick traveling with the musician back to where it all began…their hometown. During the premiere episode, native Angeleno and multi-platinum recording artist Josh Groban takes Mick on an inspiring tour of Los Angeles, relating stories about a high school teacher who mentored him in his success, giving us a glimpse of the after-school Shakespeare program he personally supports and treating Mick (and all of us as well SQUEEEE!) to a moving performance of his song, Hidden Away. Premieres 8/2 8:00pm EST!

1. In your opinion, who was the greatest Beatle? I’d love you to tell me why, if you want.

3. In your opinion, who is the best musician today? I’d love you to tell me why, if you want.
4. In your opinion, what was the best performance (of any kind) that you ever saw? I’d love you to tell me why, if you want.

The best performance (of any kind) that I ever saw was a RUSH concert I went to about 2 years ago. The show went on for 3 hours. I mean, these guys are around 60 years old and gave a better, longer show than musicians less than half their age. It was the coolest performance!
What an interesting post and giveaway! What a remarkable life Mick must have had following the lives of artists all through his lens! it is very difficult to pick one great and best musician today! I always think if Michael Jackson had lived, what would his legacy really have been today! I thought and still think Michael is extraordinary!
John & George were the most interesting Beatles–Both so talented and bright. Today’s musicians–meh. I do think Freddy Mercury was the best rock singer ever. His voice was stunning and could handle anything from opera to …well, Queen, and did. Gone too soon.
Thanks so much for sharing the info on Mick Rock. What a great photographer. The Beatles were great growing up with. I thought they were it and their songs were sung by all of my peers. I’m not certain I have a favorite Beatles song as I love them all but if I had to pick the one Beatles singer that is my favorite it would be Paul McCartney.
I think Paul is the greatest Beatle. When I think Beatles, I think Paul McCartney. I still love his music today.
I would have to say that Eric Clapton best musician today. I have seen him twice and he is amazing and when you talk about acoustic blues musicians I cannot think of anybody that can touch him.
One of the greatest concerts I ever experienced was Billy Joel at Giant Stadium back in the late 80’s. It was an incredible concert and Elton John made an appearance.
The greatest concert I ever experienced was the greatest because of the whole situation surrounding it. It was my very first concert ever and my Dad took me to see Vince Gill when I was about 10 years old. The show was amazing (he is a really good guitarist, most people don’t realize) but to me the whole experience was amazing to go with my dad. And then afterwards he took me to Dennys to eat at 11pm ON A SCHOOL NIGHT, and then let me go to school late the next day. He never let me get away with stuff like that so it was really special to me
This probably goes against what most people say but I think George is the greatest Beatle. As a very amateur guitar player, if I wanted to learn a Beatles song the part I really want to learn is George’s part (like the intro to Daytripper). He really doesn’t get enough credit for his musical contribution because John & Paul get credit for writing the songs.
George was the best Beatle imho
The greatest concert I saw was Garth Brooks back in 2002. It was amazing!
#4 “Life’s Been Good” by Joe Walsh (This is “our” song!)
I’ve only been to one concert in my life and that was Trace Adkins.
I don’t know much about any of them, so I’ll just say Ringo Starr.
#3 As loathe as I am to say this: Lady Gaga- she not only sings, but plays the piano & is a songwriter as well.
#2 Has to be the Rolling Stones simply because of the energy & fantastic music!
#1 John Lennon- because of his peaceful soul!
When I was growing up I was in love with Paul. I just thought he as soooooo dreamy.
The best performances have to be the one that your kids/grandkids are in. The most recent was my grandson’s pinewood derby for scouts. He was so proud!
Well, I loathe to have this discussion, because I think both Paul and John and premier musicians of the 20th Century, BUT…I’d have to go with Paul. He’s seriously more versatile and more talented. He is also more musical. He can play like 157 instruments or something (OK, not that many, but you get the idea) and his music doesn’t get constrained by external forces (*cough* Yoko *cough*). He is an idealist and when he steps outside his box, he wows, rather than underwhelms.
Don’t get me started on John post-Beatles. Except for that final album he dropped in 1980? Eek. Paul can still be Paul without the Beatles. John? Not so much, sad to say (at least, not the kind of artist we know and love). Paul is better looking, too. And isn’t such a wingnut. The Bed-In? Come the hell on. Actually, I could have made my argument much shorter by saying this: “Yoko Ono? Enough said.”
I’d like to hope I can be objective about John, but come to think of it, the way he abandoned his son Julian (once Yoko entered the picture) is still rubbing me the wrong way. And he left no provisions for him in his estate. Can you imagine? Yoko got everything. His own son, nothing. He somehow gets some royalties (that are miniscule) from some of his father’s music. But I remember seeing him on a documentary-type show and he showed a check that Yoko sent him or something? Like for less than $2 or some nonsense. I know that shouldn’t matter but…it bothers me. Can you imagine, your father being one of the most prolific musicians of the 20th Century and you get zilch. Just his name. That’s probably what would happen to me. LOL.
Aren’t you sorry you asked? Btw, Yoko Ono was no prize either. I do believe (if I recall correctly from a John Lennon biography) she had a child (with Tony Cox, maybe?) when she met John Lennon (and she was some whacked-out artist who was well-known for her weirdness and her penchant for trying to glom onto bigger, better artists — but who thought she’d get a BEATLE?), which we’ve never heard. Isn’t THAT odd? Look, she broke up the Beatles and she’s a no-talent hack. Let’s leave it at that.
I went through a huge Beatle phase when I was about 30. I was able to train my daughter’s ear (who was 4) to differentiate between John and Paul on vocals. Like I’d play a song and she could identify the voice (I thought it was a pretty cool trick). I also taught her to identify all the Beatles in any pictures taken throughout the 60s. I was especially proud that when I would show her Yoko Ono she’d say “That’s the devil.”
Don’t judge me. You have your accomplishments for your kids, I have mine.
