New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2017 Manicures
Drawing inspiration from Michael Costello’s Spring 2017 runway collection, Rita Remark for essie created a gorgeous design that drew on the hybrid of darkness and light. Taking a cue from the gold and açaí fabrics from the collection, Rita chose two colors, essie’s deep sole mate and metallic good as gold to luxuriously illustrate this contrast. Once again, just like Spring/Summer 2015 and 2016, NYFW Spring Summer 2017 manicures have one common trend: ultra-nude/barely there/pink/golds. I didn’t bring you any of the ultra-nudes and barely-theres because, quite frankly, they are a yawn to look at. I prefer the nude shade but they just don’t make great pictures. Nails for the shows were pretty but nothing that was very showy or graphic patterns or mixed colors. Generally, if color was used it was used sparingly or in a monochromatic way.

The Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2017 collection was inspired by Victorian era fashion. To complement the designer’s vision, Jin Soon Choi chose to create two contrasting nail art looks. Each model received either dark stripes using JINsoon Audacity, or white stripes using JINsoon Doux, finished with a matte top coat.

For Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2017 show, Julie Kandalec for essie wanted to incorporate both the sweetly innocent and dark sides to the collection. To do so, she paired wicked on the fingernails – noting that it’s a deep red, yet not black, with classic sheer ador-a-ball on the toes.

Rag & Bone’s Spring 2017 collection was all about a girl with just a bit of an attitude. While the collection had a fresh and “real” feel to it, it also had a heavy academia influence and a slight toughness – leading Julie Kandalac for essie to create a custom red manicure using a-list and really red to perfectly match the pops of red in the collection.

Rebecca Minkoff, essie Global Color Director, showcased her Fall 2016 collection, on the streets of Soho with an on-demand ‘see now. buy now.” catwalk. For the season’s nail look Celebrity manicurist Michelle Saunders created a modern twist on a classic French manicure using two fall essie shades, the antique pink go go geisha and a deep crimson maki me happy. The look was inspired by the eclectic cool girl vibes from Minkoff’s line.

The DKNY SS17 Collection is made up of distinct pieces that are ruled by contrast—soft and hard, elegance and street, tech and tradition, construction and deconstruction. The designers placed an emphasis on femininity and free–spirited sexiness. JINsoon Beau, a modern mix of teal and blue, was the perfect shade to complement DKNY’s collection.
