The Chief Blonde is wearing a pink flapper dress (Princess Vera for Kohl’s); shoes — Seychelles; green cardigan (Loft). Picture taken at the Mackinac Island Grand Hotel with a Samsung Galaxy Camera.
Walt and I snuck away for my birthday to the gorgeous Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan. Mackinac Island is at the top of the mitten (Lower Michigan is shaped like a mitten). No motorized vehicles are allowed on the island. Transportation is provided by horse and carriage, bicycles, and your own two feet. The island is only accessible by ferry boat and plane.
The Grand Hotel was was named by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as One of a Dozen Distinctive Destinations. With a 660 foot porch spanning the front of the hotel, it’s the world’s largest porch. The movie Somewhere in Time was filmed there, 5 presidents have visited, and countless dignitaries and celebrities have frequented its interiors. Built by railroad companies as a destination hotel in just 90 days, the Grand Hotel was completed in 1887.
Walt in front of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Not only is the great porch lined with gold awnings and flanked by flags but it also sports 260 window boxes full of geraniums. Boy, did I have to take a ton of Zurtec, to ward off the effects of all those flowers.
Picture taken with Samsung Galaxy Camera.
On the way to the Grand Hotel, as we take 1-75 North, we crossed the 45 parallel at Gaylord, MI. Walt and I had to sacrifice our lives to get this shot as the sign is on the left side of the expressway! We have been passing it for years, and I always wanted this shot! Now I have it!
The Chief Blonde blogs in the Jefferson Suite at the Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, MI. Picture taken with Samsung Galaxy Camera.
The rooms in the Grand Hotel are a crazy mix of eras, antiques, and decorating styles. Some are ultra girly, others are garden like, while some rooms, like the Jefferson Suite, try to evoke a bygone day. This room on the porch level had 12 foot ceilings, rich colors, and dark antique furnishings.
My Samsung Galaxy Camera and Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD from Verizon makes it super simple to do travel posts. I have recently started just letting all the photos download to Google, then I grab the ones I want and only download those.
Verizon know offers an Edge!
Now that I finally have a smart phone, I think it’s so cool that Verizon is now introducing Verizon Edge. A new plan that lets you get a new Verizon 4G LTE phone when you want it.

They must comb the blogs for subjects they are wanting to cover. I received an email and sent a picture. It’s a page of women in the US and Canada wearing animal print.
Oh that’s cool!
It’s in the October issue of Redbook. A small picture, but none the less from my blog. Have you been in Redbook before? They seem to be doing a good job showing more real women than most magazines.
