Thought about traveling the USA alphabetically?
“How many States Start with A” is part of our Travel the USA Alphabetically Series
How Many States Start with A?
Ever thought about traveling the USA in a different way? How about alphabetically? Geographically it might not make sense to do it all at one time, but you if you spread it over the course of the year it would be possible. For example, how many states start with A? There are actually 4. The “A” states could be traveled in one long cross country haul in the following order from east to west:
- Alabama
- Arkansas
- Arizona
- Alaska
According to Google Maps, it takes 88 hours to drive the trip.

Did you enjoy traveling the US alphabetically? Want to tackle the rest of the Alphabet?
My next state will be Minneapolis, Minnesota in July. I could start them all over? Nah.
Traveling alphabetically would be pretty darn fun especially since I am considering Alaska and have not been to Alabama
My favorite A state is Alabama! Like Home sweet home alabama and cherry pie!!
I’d definitely like to see the Northern Lights. They’re on my bucket list.
These photos are gorgeous. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for this information. I wish I had more time and money to travel. I do get to go to New York City a lot, however, which is always great.
I have been to AR before, too 🙂
Arkansas is a very pretty state in the summer. Pretty mountain towns and lots of stuff to see and do. I live in Missouri, real close to Arkansas
I’ve been to all 50 states but not in alphabetical order. I’ll start again with Colorado.
I probably would start with A first because I am somewhat obsessive/compulsive about doing things in order…
Alaska and Arizona are two of the most beautiful states! Id love to visit both. Starting with A would be a great way to visit the states alphabetically
That is a great question. I have some online friends in Alabama I would love to meet!
I have always wanted to go to Alaska. Thanks for sharing with us.
My husband and I love to travel! We travel often for work and travel as a hobby. We hope to early retire at 60 and spend the following chapter of our lives traveling the world and living amoung locals.
