Walt and I went shopping on Friday to a fancy mall in Troy, Michigan called the Somerset Collection. He wanted to go to the Apple store there to ask some questions about his iPhone5s. The Apple Store is huge there and it was a mad house! It made me want to pick up some Apple stock, seriously.
The mall is a perfect place to take indoor outfit shots during Michigan’s dreary fall days.
How to wear a plaid shirt in the winter? Wear plaid in holiday colors and couple it with lots of bling!
When we left the house, I said to Walt, “Do you think this outfit has too much bling?” He quickly replied, “No! I think the plaid shirt gives it a casual feel, but it still looks dressy.” I wasn’t convinced but I kept it on due to his enthusiasm!
Surprise! As I shopped, while he was in the Apple store, I had no less than 5 people tell me they liked some aspect of my outfit: the necklace, my lipstick, or the shirt. Now I have worn this outfit before (all black) without the red plaid shirt, and received nary a compliment, so I am sure it was the pop of red plaid from the Foxcroft shirt that got me all the attention.
We took the next shot in a long covered “walking sidewalk” overpass that connects two sides of the Somerset collection over a major street.
I show you this for two reasons. One is that I want to illustrate that your fashion pictures as a fashion blogger are still possible in the winter, you just have to be creative. Second, I think it’s fun as a reader sometimes, to understand where we are and what we did to get the shots you see.
This plaid blouse is part of Foxcroft’s Holiday Checklist collection. Haven’t checked out Foxcroft lately? You will be surprised! They still have the same high quality but the look of their products along with updated social media makes them a force to be considered. Women over 45 (and all our younger friends) should check out our blog article or head over to Foxcroft to view their Holiday Checklist.
I never wear plaid but I do have a couple of things that are if I ever decide to.
nice very nice!
I rarely wear plaid. But, I like the way you just showed a little bit of it with the jackets, and how it was dressed up with the sequin shirt. Maybe I could carry it off. Thank you.
I love that you paired the plaid shirt with a lot of bling. You are wearing the colors I wear most in winter and I can visualize myself wearing this here in MN. Thanks.
YOU LOOK AMAZING SHELLEY. THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO HOLIDAYS TO SEE EVERYTHIG
Very nice outfit, I love the boots and the handbag. Thank you for sharing this post.
Very cute outfit I love the boots. Hot mamma 🙂
My wife would wear plaid. It would look stylish if dome right .
Not into plaid at all. It looks good on you.
I adore plaid, especially those old wrap around skirts with the pin to hold it closed. Would still wear it with black tights and a red turtleneck 🙂
I don’t really care for plaid so no, I won’t be wearing it this holiday season.
I think plaid for the holidays is fab.
I don’t typically wear plaid but you do it so well. I may give it a shot!
I don’t normally wear plaid but if I found something I liked I would wear it.
I like Christmas plaid, but also blackwatch plaid. I think though you have to be careful of proportions and quantity or it becomes to contrived.
I used to wear plaid but have to find some new ones to wear . I am currently looking for a job ,
Sorry, not a plaid girl…so won’t be considering it for the upcoming season.
I’ve always loved plaid although I don’t own any. I am a tshirt and jeans girl although I want to break out…your blog has taught me a lot about fashion after 40!
thanks Barrie. Reach out anytime if you need clothing suggestions! The Chief Blonde
I think plaid is super stylish for the holidays. With a sparkly tank under or leggings. Definitely cute
I have no problem with plaid. I wear plaid shirts all the time and with solid pants
