Halloween Food Crafts for Kids: Halloween Spiders

Halloween Food Crafts for Kids: Halloween Spiders is a great food craft for kids working with adults. Fun and quick to make and eat. When preparing this recipe, you must move quickly when you are working with the melted chocolate.
Author: Shelley Zurek
Recipe type: Food Craft
Ingredients
  • White Candy Coating (or whatever color you wish), make sure to use a candy coating not just melted chocolate, it doesn't set up the same way
  • 1 package Celebration by Sweetworks Pearls (I used the Halloween Mix and Autumn Mix, but they have a huge variety)
  • 1 package Celebration by Sweetworks Spooky Eyeballs Or Halloween Mix Gumballs
Instructions
  1. Place a piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet
  2. Melt two squares (or a handful of wafers) of candy coating in microwave or on the stovetop. Once melted you must move very quickly. Put melted chocolate into a quart size ziplock bag and pipe 4 pairs of legs (8 legs total). ½ of the legs should be shaped for the right and half for the left body of the spider...so angle legs accordingly. Make another batch. Then, you might want to make some extras in case a few legs break.
  3. Quickly press in the Celebration by Sweetworks Pearls to decorate the legs.
  4. Place decorated legs in fridge for 10 minutes.
  5. Once legs are set, remove from fridge.
  6. Spread another piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet.
  7. Melt 1 more square of candy coating (or a half handful of wafers). On the wax paper, use a spoon to make 2 thick round circle about the size of a silver dollar .
  8. Working quickly, place a spooky eyeball or pumpkin in the center of each circle as a head.
  9. Put 4 legs on each side of the spider, balancing against each other and the center head. You might have to hold briefly but the chocolate sets up very quickly. Carefully place completed spiders in fridge for 15 min to finish setting.

My faves would be any of the solid milk chocolates, hearts, bunnies, eggs, whatever – as long as it’s sold milk chocolate. Why? Because I love milk chocolate.

As a confirmed chocoholic, I’d have to go with any of the Sweetworks chocolates, such as the Foiled Solid Dark Silver Croquettes.
