What is Buffalo Plaid?
Buffalo Check (or Plaid) is actually the Rob Roy tartan which is a distinctive plaid with large blocks formed by the intersection of two different color yarns, typically red and black. It took on the name Buffalo check or plaid because the Indians liked to trade buffalo pelts for blankets in the Scottish Rob Roy Tartan pattern. Other stories abound on the names origin, this one seems the most plausible.
