November 12, 2014 By Shelley Zurek 143 Comments

MMMM Bacon!  The Big Book of Bacon
The Big Book of Bacon

THE BIG BOOK OF BACON: Savory Flirtations, Dalliances, and Indulgences with the Underbelly of the Pig, by Jennifer Pearsall; November 4, 2014, 2014; $19.95; ISBN: 9781629145556

WHAT? 100 Best Bacon Recipes

I received written by Jennifer L. S. Pearsall to review and enjoy. Can I just say, this is something a bacon lover cannot put down. LIKE EVER!  I mean just look at the recipes

Satisfy your craving for this “candy meat” with dishes that spotlight bacon (like our Mushroom Swiss Burger), and others that use it as subtle, rich flavor enhancer (like the tart Cherry Tomato Pasta made with nutty zucchini and creamy Provolone sauce). You’ll learn how to cook a slice properly, how to navigate brand thickness and choice, and even how to make a Bacon Bowl! YES, I you read that right!  A BACON BOWL!  Here’s another recipe from the book that I am dying to make:

Alright, now I know you have an idea of the delectable recipes in this 271 page full color book.  You will love the heavyweight coated stock used to make the book and the oversized format. Every recipe has tips and tricks that help you understand the nuances behind each recipe.  There are photos galore, which is a must for me when using a cookbook.  And well…MMMMM BACON!

I am really interested in some new recipes – my daughter is VERY picky and yet she loves bacon as do I, so I want to cook more with it 🙂 I also love to learn new things so the informational aspect appeals to me as well!

Everyone is “bacon crazy” now, and I have a nephew is Over The Top bacon crazy whoud LOVE this! LOL My husband is a chef, so I can see LOTS of applications for new ideas, and GREAT gift giving potential in this book! Also found it interesting that Pearsall found that bacon qualifies as “umami”, that fifth taste sensation! That probably explains the bacon craze!

The author found that bacon qualifies as umami, that fifth taste sensation that, roughly translated, quite simply means “good flavor.” This appeals to me because I never thought of bacon in this way before.

My doctor once told me to quit trying to eat “healthy” and eat bacon and eggs for breakfast and I would in fact be healthier. I do believe her and I love bacon. I do believe bacon is the original superfood-there is nothing better than bacon. Having a book full of recipes using bacon is all a girl could ask for (well along with the bacon of course).

We’re talking bacon here- the food of the heavens.
I am game to trying just about any recipe that includes BACON.

I like the author’s philosophy: “I can’t think of anything bacon doesn’t work with.”

I like the look of the book! It looks educational (with the chalkboard cover). I’d give this to my mom because she loves to find new ways to cook familiar foods.
