Did my Life get too Cluttered?
Blog Note: I have severely disappointed one of my readers, maybe more and I am sorry. I started this declutter challenge back in Jan., 2011. We had 3 months worth of prizes added to the pile and a nice group of readers jumped on board and participated enthusiastically. Then my life took over (one kid graduating high school out of state plus open house, one graduating college, sick mom, another kid moved out, high school senior went to college, 2 kids got licences, a wedding, a bridal shower, yada-yada-yada! ) Anywho, I let the ball drop on this and I am sorry! Especially to my dear reader who is upset with me. But the challenge isn’t ruined yet…we have this month to get caught up!
So Let’s Catch up!
Anyway the deal was, you were supposed to declutter one item everyday for 365 days. Then you were supposed to give your input every month into how you were doing as your entry and I would add a prize to the pile each month. You guys did an awesome job of commenting in the first three months.

Like my previous post – I would say it is my boyfriend that causes the most clutter. I usually clean the house in a frenzy and it looks great until he gets home and starts tossing things wherever there is a flat surface to put them. I can never get him to put anything away…..
My favorite tip would be to put things away when you are done with them! If it wasn’t for my boyfriend my house would be so clean! He always drops whatever he’s doin where he’s at and never puts his dirty clothes or dishes where they belong!
The clutter hotspot in my house is the desk. it is the largest surface available in the livingroom which is right inside the door. Everything in our hands gets set on that desk and usually doesn’t move until I go on a cleaninig frenzy. And I always know that clutter attracts more clutter!
My biggest challenge is the fact that after I clean our “hot spots” it gets cluttered within the week. I feel like I have so much stuff but not enough patience or time to weed through it.
I feel certain that in the last year I have gotten rid of at least 365 of MY things.
We got rid of more than that. We moved into a smaller place.
No one.
My son and my husband stand in my way from decluttering. They pick things out of the trash that I have thrown away.
Do i use it? If not is it needed it can go.
I will hang on to something that has sentimental value or I will hang on to things that were gifts.
A pot of coffee and good oldies music on. i am ready.
Just take it a step at a time.
I am motivated to declutter when thing s get so bad that I can’t stand it anymore. I am the only neat freak in our home so I am the only one bothered by the clutter.
1. my office
2. the kitchen, it’s where we drop backpacks and lunch boxes and mail when we come in from after school. then it’s dinner time dishes galore.
3. throw away or donate unwanted items
4. me
5. use toy bins for small items
6. invite company over, i will clean in a hurry then
7. sentimental value
8. the internet aka facebook, email
9. no
Utilize the space under the beds for storage.
I can’t blame any one person. I think we all have our turn.
When using storage tubs, I use the clear ones. It really helps to know what is in each one. Like for Christmas you can get out lights or ornaments because you can see them instead of getting out all boxes.
My 13 yr old son and my husband cause the most clutter in our home.
Use baskets and other unusual containers to corral papers and small items until they can be put in the proper place.
The entryway. It seems that you walk in lay down your stuff and leave it. Because of course Mom will straighten the shoes and hang the jackets.
