Did my Life get too Cluttered?
Blog Note: I have severely disappointed one of my readers, maybe more and I am sorry. I started this declutter challenge back in Jan., 2011. We had 3 months worth of prizes added to the pile and a nice group of readers jumped on board and participated enthusiastically. Then my life took over (one kid graduating high school out of state plus open house, one graduating college, sick mom, another kid moved out, high school senior went to college, 2 kids got licences, a wedding, a bridal shower, yada-yada-yada! ) Anywho, I let the ball drop on this and I am sorry! Especially to my dear reader who is upset with me. But the challenge isn’t ruined yet…we have this month to get caught up!
So Let’s Catch up!
Anyway the deal was, you were supposed to declutter one item everyday for 365 days. Then you were supposed to give your input every month into how you were doing as your entry and I would add a prize to the pile each month. You guys did an awesome job of commenting in the first three months.

My biggest decluttering challenge came immediately after christmas. My parents are divorced, so our little girl has three sets of grandparents. She got more stuff for Christmas than WE knew what to do with.
By the way, I’d just like to say that I was meant to see this giveaway. I’ve been having trouble motivating myself to clean up the clutter. My daughter made a comment today that made me sad. She said she likes our new house but doesn’t like all the stuff in it. That made me very sad. I am not a dirty person or a slob. I just have way too much stuff!
Did I get rid of 365 things last year? Are you kidding? I got rid of more than that. I have made so many trips to goodwill and the trash bins, it’s crazy! My house is still cluttered like crazy but day by day something goes. Now all I have to do is make sure nothing more comes in that serves no purpose other than to satisfy my instant gratification problem…obviously!
I stand in my way of decluttering. My lazyiness and web surfing has gotten out of control. I am so tired all the time but if I take my iron like my doctor tells me and force myself to do what it takes to take care of the clutter, I probably wouldn’t be so depressed. I read somewhere that clutter is one cause or symptom of depression. I take meds for depression for another reason but I do believe when the house is clean, I feel better and not so moody and stressed out!
I used to keep old Christmas cards, birthday cards, and other stuff. Since my mom passed away suddenly back in March 2008 of MRSA pnuemonia, I realized material things aren’t as important as taking care of ourselves first. I threw out most of the cards except for the ones that were signed by family that has since passed. I only keep one card with their signature on it. Weird, I know but it helps me remember that they were once here and real!
To motivate myself to declutter, I turn off the tv and turn off the laptop. I tell the kids to go play and concentrate on one room. I try to multitask and do the dishes and laundry while I tackle another room. Hmmm, maybe that’s why I never get ONE room done!
Storage tip? I have no clue since my storage skills are almost non-existent! I will keep reading up on others tips just to get an idea of how to get my own stash taken care of!
I cause the clutter in my house! I buy my kids stuff that I know they won’t put away or play with after a day or two. I also collected many things over the course of 20 years while in the military. Now I have to figure out what goes!
My favorite decluttering tip has to be if I haven’t worn a piece of clothing in over a year, get rid of it! I was keeping clothes in the hopes of getting back down to that size 7! Dreams die hard!
My clutter hotspot is one room that was supposed to be my youngest son’s room. My two younger kids 6 and 4 still sleep with me, so the extra room gets the clutter! Everytime I look in there, I gasp!
My biggest clutter challenge is me! I have so much clutter that it overwhelms me and I can’t finish one project without moving to another room before I’m done with the first. It’s frustrating!
I got rid of at least 365 things. We did a complete kitchen remodel and partial living and dining room remodel so having all that stuff out of the rooms made me get rid of a lot
Spending time on my computer keeps me from decluttering.
I keep things because I think I will not be able to afford to buy it later
In order to motivate myself I need a lot of rest and going to my friends houses that are beautiful neat and organized helps me want to have a place like that
My best storage tip are pretty baskets put high up so you can’t see the contents
I cause the most clutter. I can’t blame my husband or my kids. I’m the worst
My favorite tip is to completely empty the bin/closet/room and get rid of what you don’t need or sell in garage sale, consignment store or donate then put back what you will use in order
The recliner where I sit is a clutter hotspot. baskets of papers, and other junk
Biggest challenge is paperwork. The more I get rid of the more keeps piling up
