Did my Life get too Cluttered?
Blog Note: I have severely disappointed one of my readers, maybe more and I am sorry. I started this declutter challenge back in Jan., 2011. We had 3 months worth of prizes added to the pile and a nice group of readers jumped on board and participated enthusiastically. Then my life took over (one kid graduating high school out of state plus open house, one graduating college, sick mom, another kid moved out, high school senior went to college, 2 kids got licences, a wedding, a bridal shower, yada-yada-yada! ) Anywho, I let the ball drop on this and I am sorry! Especially to my dear reader who is upset with me. But the challenge isn’t ruined yet…we have this month to get caught up!
So Let’s Catch up!
Anyway the deal was, you were supposed to declutter one item everyday for 365 days. Then you were supposed to give your input every month into how you were doing as your entry and I would add a prize to the pile each month. You guys did an awesome job of commenting in the first three months.

My biggest challege was baby stuff. We had her in August and loaded ourselfs down with stuff- totally our own faults, but when you can find cute little girl outfits for .50 cent each at thrift store… its hard not to. We ended up with too much in a couple sizes, and it was really difficult narrowing it down and getting to a reasonable amount of baby clothes.
What storage tip can you give others that will help them to declutter?
I like to use bins that can easily be stacked so there’s less clutter on the floor.
Did you get rid of 365 things this year?
Yes! I got rid of so many old toys, stuffed animals, clothes, home decor, unused dishes and tupperware, etc…
Who stands in your way from decluttering?
I’d like to blame it on my kids and never having any free time but really I have to blame myself for not having the motivation!
I did not get rid of that many things but started a new donation pile yesterday 🙂
What’s the biggest factor that makes you KEEP something versus throwing it OUT?
If an item holds any memories it’s really hard to get rid of it… Especially baby clothes and toys!
I stand in my own way
I keep things I LOVE
How do you motivate yourself to declutter?
I really just get to the point where I can’t stand the clutter anymore and I just push through until it’s gone!
I don’t get motivated until it piles up on me!
I have started using those cheap little rubbermaids and putting things I don’t use in them by category! IT’s a process but it works.
Who is the person (s) who cause clutter in your house?
As much as I hate to admit it that would be me…
What is your favorite Decluttering Tip?
If you haven’t used it in the past 6 months you don’t need it!
My husband and I are both extremely guilty of cluttering up the whole house!
What area of your home is your CLUTTER HOTSPOT? Why?
Definitely the garage… I throw things out there with the whole out of sight out of mind philosophy.
My tip would just be to have a hub for bills/ cards/ etc. like an organizer!
My dining room table seems to really get trashed by all our stuff!
Hmmm, I didn’t count, especially since most of my clutter is paper and magazines, etc. I probably didn’t hit 365, but I am definitely over 150!
What’s your biggest decluttering Challenge in the past year?
My biggest decluttering challenge would have to be cleaning out the garage… I spend all day cleaning it out then within 2 weeks it’s full of clutter again… It’s a horrible never ending cycle!
Biggest decluttering challenge is my “dressing room”. I started and never finished! Like you, life too over!
