Did my Life get too Cluttered?
Blog Note: I have severely disappointed one of my readers, maybe more and I am sorry. I started this declutter challenge back in Jan., 2011. We had 3 months worth of prizes added to the pile and a nice group of readers jumped on board and participated enthusiastically. Then my life took over (one kid graduating high school out of state plus open house, one graduating college, sick mom, another kid moved out, high school senior went to college, 2 kids got licences, a wedding, a bridal shower, yada-yada-yada! ) Anywho, I let the ball drop on this and I am sorry! Especially to my dear reader who is upset with me. But the challenge isn’t ruined yet…we have this month to get caught up!
So Let’s Catch up!
Anyway the deal was, you were supposed to declutter one item everyday for 365 days. Then you were supposed to give your input every month into how you were doing as your entry and I would add a prize to the pile each month. You guys did an awesome job of commenting in the first three months.

I got rid of a lot more than 365 items!
I stand in my way for decluttering with my lack of motivation!
I keep something if I think I will need it, or, of course, if I still use it.
I used to be my biggest obstacle to decluttering – I might need/want this someday.
Declutter motivation: that’s where I have the most trouble! It’s usually when my mother is coming to visit.
Storage tip: I have short open shelves under my clothes in the closet for my shoes. There’s always room where the clothes don’t hang all the way to the floor.
Fit for clothes & usefulness for everything else = keep
I cause most of the clutter in my house.
My favorite decluttering tip, if only I could follow it, is to only let a piece of paper touch your hands once. Then either file it, recycle it, or do whatever with it that needs to be done.
Not being able to find items is all the motivation I need.
My clutter hotspot is my living room because that’s where I sit with all the mail and paper that comes into my house.
My biggest decluttering challenge are my piles of papers and mail. I reduced the number of piles, but I still have a way to go 🙁
My tip: Keep extra storage bins (neatly nested) available as needed.
My husband LIKES clutter everywhere but HIS shop. Maybe he does it just to annoy me?
I use plastic bins all over the house (and they help) so I guess that’s my fave tip.
My closet is my clutter hot spot – It’s just too small!
My closet has been my challenge all year. I did do some serious weeding in the beginning but there’s still piles in the guest room waiting.
I am pretty sure I got rid of more than 365 things this year. Lots of outgrown kids clothes, old toys, and magazines.
My husband seems to be the person who is in the way when I want to declutter. He is kind of a packrat, I think because his mother is.
The biggest factor that makes me keep something instead of throwing it out is if it’s an item that I use often, but simply got misplaced. If I haven’t touched whatever it is in over a month, it usually gets donated.
