Did my Life get too Cluttered?
Blog Note: I have severely disappointed one of my readers, maybe more and I am sorry. I started this declutter challenge back in Jan., 2011. We had 3 months worth of prizes added to the pile and a nice group of readers jumped on board and participated enthusiastically. Then my life took over (one kid graduating high school out of state plus open house, one graduating college, sick mom, another kid moved out, high school senior went to college, 2 kids got licences, a wedding, a bridal shower, yada-yada-yada! ) Anywho, I let the ball drop on this and I am sorry! Especially to my dear reader who is upset with me. But the challenge isn’t ruined yet…we have this month to get caught up!
So Let’s Catch up!
Anyway the deal was, you were supposed to declutter one item everyday for 365 days. Then you were supposed to give your input every month into how you were doing as your entry and I would add a prize to the pile each month. You guys did an awesome job of commenting in the first three months.

I have no where to put all my craft supplies they are all over the place!
I donated a number of extra items to others in need. That is always a great way to get rid of stuff and feel good about it.
My parents stand in the way of de-cluttering, as I have no place to organize efficiently because they have too much junk they don’t use and don’t need.
The biggest reason I keep something rather than throwing it away…is nothing I have needs to be thrown away. My issue is not that I have too much, it is that I need my own house.
I really have to feel good and have a good day and get everybody out of the house so I can think and work on organizing in peace.
Storage Tip. I love to use plastic storage containers that have locking lids. They come in all sizes and depths. Great as you can stack them. Also adding additional shelves to closets and cupboards can be helpful.
My mother causes the biggest collection of clutter in the house as she wants the house to be the equivalent of a Walmart
My favorite de-cluttering tip would be to be realistic about what you need and you don’t need.
Almost every area of the home is a clutter hotspot because my mother is a hoarder
Organizing and creating space when my space is also shared by other family members and I really don’t have the space I need.
My biggest challenge is a closet in my kitchen. I intend to convert it to a pantry. Right now it is just a pile closet.
Mostly my teenage son, but we all to our part to add to the clutter.
My favorite tip is to set a timer for 15 minutes a day and declutter one small area for 15 minutes.
The biggest hotspot in my house is the kitchen counter because everything seems to get dumped there when people get home.
My biggest decluttering challenge in the past year was my sewing room. I have a hard time getting rid of patterns and fabric I’ll never use.
my biggest decluttering challenge has been my closet!
CLUTTER HOTSPOT = kitchen counter
clutter person = mom that passed in march
biggest factor that makes you KEEP something versus throwing it OUT = it was my moms, grandmas or it might be worth something someday
Who stands in your way from decluttering? = NO ONE
rid of 365 things this year = YES I DID!! gave most to a local second hand shop
biggest decluttering Challenge = moms bedroom but i did it with tons of tears & hugs from friends
Decluttering Tip = do the mail right from the postbox don’t sit it down somewhere
storage tip = glass jars you always can see whats in them
motivate = go body moving music
I march my mom passed out only to leave me with an over cluttered house. From the living room to the bedrooms was too much of everything. I pared down once & then again & then again. I know it was alot of work but my heart was hurting & couldn’t let somethings go just yet. It was alot of work but now I can say look at what a great house this really is. I still have all the memorys without keeping the clutter.
Thanks for sharing your decluttering efforts. Your story was epic, classic and heartfelt. Thankyou. The Chief Blonde!
Wow! Did I get rid of 365 things this year? I’m afraid not.I probably only got rid of about 200 things. Sad face.
I suppose I stand in my own way of decluttering. I get in a rut and get lazy. 🙁
My biggest cluttering challenge is finding places to put stuff!
