Did my Life get too Cluttered?
Blog Note: I have severely disappointed one of my readers, maybe more and I am sorry. I started this declutter challenge back in Jan., 2011. We had 3 months worth of prizes added to the pile and a nice group of readers jumped on board and participated enthusiastically. Then my life took over (one kid graduating high school out of state plus open house, one graduating college, sick mom, another kid moved out, high school senior went to college, 2 kids got licences, a wedding, a bridal shower, yada-yada-yada! ) Anywho, I let the ball drop on this and I am sorry! Especially to my dear reader who is upset with me. But the challenge isn’t ruined yet…we have this month to get caught up!
So Let’s Catch up!
Anyway the deal was, you were supposed to declutter one item everyday for 365 days. Then you were supposed to give your input every month into how you were doing as your entry and I would add a prize to the pile each month. You guys did an awesome job of commenting in the first three months.

I motivate myself to declutter by just tackling one single thing for the day so I don’t get overwhelmed.
A storage tip to help declutter would be to wrap up items and box and put away. These would be items that my daughter will want when she moves out.
I am the person who causes clutter in my home.
My fav tip is open the mail when you bring it in.
My clutter hot spot is my coffee table because the office is a mess and I end up putting all mail on it.
biggest decluttering Challenge in the past year has been my craft room.
Unfortunately, no I did not get rid of 365 things this year…maybe I will get rid of 730 this year to make up for it LOL
My husband stands in my way. As I clean up something he finds a reason why it shouldn’t be donated. If its a shirt thats 2 sizes to small now, he thinks he should keep it, just in case. I say, we can keep it, but lets make something we can use out of it.
The biggest factor to keep rather than throw away is, is it usable? If it can be upcycled, recycled or donated, its kept.
For motivation to declutter I watch hoarders LOL
Containers, containers, containers is the best tip! Everyone has a bin and at the end of the day, I toss everyone stuff in their container and hand it to them.
In 2011 – I can definitely say I got rid of 365 things! We moved into a new house and I got rid of a lot of junk.
Its a tie between my husband and son for the clutter.
My decluttering tip is for junk mail…when the mail comes, stand near the trash can and immediately pitch whats junk. Don’t keep your mail for later.
No one really stands in my way of decluttering – spending time with my family, relaxing, other chores – that’s what usually stands in my way.
The living is our clutter hotspot. We all hang out there including the kidlet and his toys. Its a mess.
I tend to keep things that hold a certain sentimental value or meaning – especially if one of my kids made it for me.
My biggest challenge is figuring out what to do with the stuff.
Motivation is when I notice the dust collecting around things and when I get frustrated enough to do something about it! 🙂
label everything!!! That definitely helps me to stay organized. At my age – I have to write everything down!
