Zurek is Sour Soup, not a city in Switerland!

My Husband is a Zurek
During the course of my life, my last name has begun with ‘B’, with ‘M’, and now ‘Z’. I love being a ZUREK, it is such fun family to marry into, as Walt has 4 siblings, 92 first cousins, and a whole slew of distant relatives.
Walt has spent a considerable amount of time researching his family history on both his mother and father’s side of the family. He has researched his father’s side, the Zurek’s, back to the 1700s. Yes, there are still a few names and dates missing along the way, and some supporting documents still to collect…but that’s half the fun of the research. And it all started with a trial World Explorer Plus membership that I won about a year ago!
Walt’s family tree on the Zurek side, as you can see his research goes back to the 1700s. Some names have been removed to protect privacy. This capability to make a family tree is a part of the features on Ancestry. com
I think when Walt first started researching his family, he had no idea where the search would take him or that he would become so immersed in the search for his roots. I certainly had no idea when we attained the membership how many things we would do around the research! Consider a trial Ancestry. com membership for yourself!
For example:
Ancestry.com helps find where relatives lived and died
Based on the knowledge we gained via Ancestry. com we have visited family grave sites and local surrounding towns in Parisville, Mi. which is the oldest Polish Settlement in America. We found several relatives buried in the local Catholic Cemetery at St. Mary’s Church. We even discovered the burial cross of Walt’s 2nd great grandma. Because the museum was closing, they gave the cross to Walt! This was all because of the knowledge he gained on Ancestory. com
Ancestry.com leads you to experts, databases and other searchers who can help discover who you are
Via the hired experts, databases and others who had already researched the Zurek tree, Walt was able to locate documents such as this passenger list from the SS Hyram-Hamburg, Germany to Quebec, Ont (April 1886) which confirms his 2nd Great grandmother’s passage to North America. Via the “Hire an Expert” tab, he hired an expert in Poland who greatly helped in finding documentation to verify relatives on the Zurek family tree. You can also view the trees of other relatives and people who are Ancestry .com members. If their tree is public, you can grab parts of their trees and paste the relevant parts into your tree!
You can find out about your family Last name meanings and origin on your first visit!

Zurek soup looks delicious! I always love finding out things about my family heritage and history!
This is something I’ve always wanted to get and trace – I’d love to know more about my family especially since i know so very little. Perhaps now that all the kids will be in school in a couple weeks, I’ll have the time …
With losing my brother, dad and many other relatives doing something like this brings me peace. I have an account on ancestry.com already. 🙂
My aunts have traced our family back to Norway (via Canada and Montana) and it is so fascinating! Also, 92 first cousins?!?!? I have 5! haha
Oh how fun… I would love to look up my ancestry… I have so many questions and everyone from my parents up have passed.
That’s awesome, I love tracking my family tree. We had to do a project in high school and I tracked one branch on my dad’s side back to the 1700s in Rhode Island :).
I love the idea of being able to construct my family tree right from my computer. Ancestry.com is pretty cool!
Ancestry.com is really cool. I love the idea of being able to trace my lineage from my computer.
This is so neat. We have a lot of adoption in my side of the family, and my husband’s family is HUGE. I would love to know more about their roots!
I spend hours each and every week doing family research! I love Ancestry! I have discovered so many wonderful stories about my relatives. It is so neat to know where you come from!
My cousin did this a few years back thanks to Ancestry.com. We knew very little about our family until that time.
I might have to get this for the hubby for Christmas. He is most interested in learning his family’s history. My mother’s mother came over on the boat from Poland.
It is so cool to learn more about our family histories. I know some through stories my grandparents have told me but it would be so interesting to go back into the 1700s and beyond. I’m a huge fan of historical fiction, so imagine finding out my own historical nonfiction. 🙂 I just might have to check out the trial.
That’s so neat! I’d love to look into it but we’ve got such common last names that I wonder if it’d be hard
My mom had that for a while. She was doing research on all our family history. I think she is getting back into it a bit these days. She had put it on hold for a while when taking care of my grandmother.
My son in law’s family uses Ancestry.com to do a lot of their genealogy. It’s really cool some of the things you can discover about your family.
It really is fun to see where you come from, the roots that help got you to where you are in life. My mom researched our family back about that far too! I love pulling it all up. We have ancestry.com too and it’s awesome.
It is so interesting to see into our family’s background! Robert E. Lee is part of my family tree!! And randomly, that soup looks fantastic!
I love finding out about family history. I bet it is fun for your kids to learn too.
My maiden name is Chiacchieri, which means talk in Italian. My great grand parents were straight off the boat and I would love to learn more.
