Improving your food storage skills: Vacuum Sealing Food Benefits?
Today’s discussion on Vacuum Sealing Benefits is brought to you by Vibrant Influencer Network and a campaign for the Ziploc® Vacuum Sealer System. When I was young, I remember food storage was a hot topic in my household. Never being a family to waste one single solitary bit of anything, we wanted to always make sure that all the food from the garden, the butcher, and the grocery was stored in the proper manner. In fact, this was what my grandma’s kitchen set up looked like, there was a huge refrigerator and freezer pair.
Grandma also had a root cellar where she stored apples (my grandfather had an orchard) and what seemed like a zillion canning jars! My mother had a similar set-up with the full freezer in a back room. The issue with this method of food storage was that, sometimes, by the time they got through the 1/2 of beef or quarts of frozen blueberries and strawberries, the food had gone bad from freezer burn. What a waste!
Vacuum Sealing– How it works
Vacuum Sealing is a not a new food storage method but the methods of vacuum sealing just keep improving. In fact, Ziploc® Vacuum Sealer System has just developed a new line that is sleek, easy, affordable, and can really save you money. (Psst: Get your exclusive coupon HERE!) The Ziploc®Brand Vacuum Sealer System has specially designed Ziploc® Brand vacuum sealing bags and rolls. Just store food or valuables in any sized or customized bags and insert into the vacuum sealer machine — the first thing that the sealer will do is to begin removing the air from the bag. The plastic of the sealing bag will create a second “skin” over the contents.
The bag is then sealed with a specially designed heated seal bar. The heated surface presses the bag closed, applying sufficient heat to slightly melt the plastic of the bag at the point where the heated surface is applied. This melting creates an airtight seal that can’t simply be pulled apart. Once a Ziploc® Brand vacuum sealing bag has been sealed, the only way to reopen the bag is to cut it open beneath the seal.
The Ziploc® Brand Vacuum Sealer System removes the air from their specially-designed bags to provide a tough barrier layer on the outside, to keep all of your food fresh on the inside. Obviously, proper refrigeration and freezing methods still need to be employed.
The Ziploc®Brand Vacuum Sealing System provides vacuum sealing food benefits
Benefits of vacuum sealing for food storage with the Ziploc®Brand Vacuum Sealing System include:
- Extends the shelf life up to 5 times by removing the air that normally would react with the contents to spoil them
- Slows growth of spoilage bacteria and keeps out mold and mildew
- Maintains the moisture content of foods and prevents freezer burn
- Keeps moisture away from items that must be stored dry
- In the freezer, vacuum sealing is great for storing expensive meats and fish
- In the refrigerator, keep hard cheeses at their best for a few months
- In the pantry, keep homemade cookies oven-fresh for 3-6 weeks

this would be good to have especially if you buy in bulk.it would probably work good on leftover meals to freeze.for quick and easy dinners
Theses are real nice
I love the chart that tells how long the food last in the bags. Great information.
I use one and it’s good for me to be able to buy things on sale and then to keep them.
Yes!! We have too much food that goes bad and ends up being so super expensive!! We have been looking into getting one but have been undecided!! I’ll have to show hubby these charts!!
THANKS for sharing this great info!
wow! how nice is this, I hope to find one under my tree this year lol If your like me in the kitchen a lot cooking and what not this is something that is a must to have for storing , freezing and cooking… love it
I think vacuum sealing is a great idea. Having one of these means that food stays fresher for longer and you use less Tupperware. Thank you for sharing this review.
Thanks for sharing, this information is useful. the vacuum seal is really convenient. It helps me better food preservation, saving time and money.
I just finished packaging 5 sheep that I butchered and this thing worked great! I didn’t wait for anything and sealed one bag just as soon as the one before it was done. Over 300lbs of meat was bagged and sealed without any problems, great machine. I just hope it keeps working this well.
Yes I have and like it a lot.
I have never vacuumed packed any food but have wanted to try to do so.
Yes we have, but the sealer broke on me so I have not replaced it. I will say our food stayed fresher longer, and the meats stayed longer in freezer
I watched the video. Very interesting to watch. I have never used a vacuum Sealer Before!! I probably should get one. I make my 2 dogs their food a month at a time. I use ziplock bags. This way looks real professional. Gives me something to think about!!
Not at home, I haven’t. I did work in a grocery during high school, though, & we often used a vacuum sealer on produce.
I love vacuum sealing my food!
No I have never used one.I had no idea you could seal things like lettuce!
I have never vacuum sealed any foods. I have always just used ziploc bags. But after seeing your chart on how long vacuuum sealing can extend the life of many items, this is on my wish list. Thanks for the informative post.
I have not done this but I would love to some day..I am sick of my foods in the freezer getting freezer burn.
No I’ve always wanted to try this but haven’t gotten a chance to yet. Looks like a great idea!
