The Empty Tomb, Master Sculpture of Mary Magdalene

The Empty Tomb–What Easter Means To Me

Chirst appearing to Mary Magdalene_unknown

Christ Appearing to Mary Magdalene, Artist UnKnown.

Sorry NO BUNNIES!

No Painted Eggs? No little fluffy Chickies?  No Sweets?  NO!  It’s not that I think there is anything wrong with that…it’s just not what Easter MEANS to me.  When I reflect upon Easter, Christianity’s Holiest Holiday remembering the Death and Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ…I think of one thing!  THE EMPTY Tomb.

The Artwork above represents Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene, who along with other women, visited Jesus’s tomb to prepare his body for burial.  In John 20:16 , “Jesus said to her, “Mary.”    She turned toward him and cried out.

Can’t you just see that in her face in the above work of art?   She is stunned, overjoyed, shocked, relieved…all at the same moment.  I am like Mary to a degree.  Stunned that Jesus gave up his life for us, stunned that God gave up His only Son for us and amazed to see Him again on Easter but immensely relieved.

He is RISEN …Hallelujah

      Hi Ruth,

Thanks so much for your response. I didn’t get a ton of feedback on this
one, but it meant so much to me personally that I didn’t need it. I am so
glad that it touched you as well!

I can’t imagine my reaction if I had seen Jesus and the empty tomb like Mary. I am so thankful that the Lord died for us! Happy Easter!
