Not all Superheroes Wear Capes!
I have two children graduating this year! My son and daughter have finally made it through University and are claiming their degrees this year. The three of us have been through many things together: living in Switzerland, going through my divorce, moving back to the USA, my marriage to Walt (which created a blended family of six) and then the regular progression of life through elementary school, middle school, high school and college.
Through their many phases and changes, my son and daughter have really been great children and incredible achievers. Take my son’s progression, for example. Ben at an early age showed great mathematical ability and quickly progressed beyond his grade level to finish high school with two years of college calculus completed.
He loved piling up honors and awards, for him it was like attaining another level in a video game. Before completing high school, he was a black belt in karate, a working DJ, a certified scuba diver, had a part-time job at a pharmacy and upon graduation was in the top 25 in his 600-plus graduating class. He went on to attain the Presidential Scholarship at Wayne State University, which enabled him to be admitted immediately into the pharmacy program as a freshman! Now he is about to be a graduate pharmacist with just his test to complete. AND HE ALREADY HAS A JOB!!!!
My daughter, Kelly, took a very different route in life. Always a whiz in school, she was also extremely artistic. From a young age, she took every kind of dance available to her—always dancing with older girls due to her skill level. Once her home turf could no longer offer the instruction that she needed, she was accepted into the only public ballet high school in the county, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Her ballet pursuit ended as high school came to a close, but her love of the arts never swayed. She is graduating this year with double Honors degrees in Hospitality Business and Graphic Design from Michigan State University. AND SHE HAS ALREADY HAS A JOB!!
Graduation Gifts for Superheroes
Needless to say, my kids are my Superheroes! And Superheroes require really special graduation gifts, right? Ben has always loved Marvel Comics movies, so when I was recruited to try the Cross Century® II Marvel Collection, I knew I had found the perfect gift for him.
As a pharmacist, Ben will use a pen every day and more importantly with so many different people in the pharmacy it will be good to have his writing be more distinctive. As the only pharmacist on duty during a shift, Ben might want to have a pen that signifies his status. Yet, Ben is also young and has a fun personality. He is a Marvel fan from way back, so this new Cross Century® II Marvel Collection is perfect for him—heroic design meets legendary performance in three stunning luxury collectibles.
I feel that this new line of pens mark epic moments with larger-than-life writing instruments celebrating Captain America, Spider-Man and Iron Man. These striking collectibles were designed to inspire Marvel fans of all sizes. As a young pharmacist, Ben chose the Cross Marvel Tech2 Iron Man Multifunction Pen ($45). He liked that the Iron Man pen has a vibrant metallic red lacquer and emblem with Iron Man design details and rhodium-plated appointments. He also liked that the pen is a smooth ballpoint pen and .6mm precision stylus in one. They stylus is compatibility with most current touchscreen devices and Ben is always on his tablet.
Now Kelly, my graphic designer, will do a lot of her work on the computer or on a letterpress.
However, as an artist, she likes nothing more than to grab a pen and take notes during client meetings or to just doodle away. With her new agency job, she will be among many talented creatives who express themselves not only through their work but through their clothing and work accessories. Kelly felt the Cross Classic Century® Collection was more her style, and focused in on the Classic Century Medalist Ballpoint Pen with 23k gold plated appointments ($65)
Kelly was aware that the Cross Classic Century® is an icon of American design and innovation. In my experience, many of the big executives I have known always have this pen. It’s been the choice of movers, shakers and ground breakers since 1946. Classic Century® delivers. Its sleek profile and patented twist-action barrel sparked a design revolution. Generations later passionate fans remain loyal to the iconic silhouette while trendsetters appreciate its authenticity. Kelly is certainly a combination of classic (the ballet dancer) and trendsetter (the graphic designer)!
Kelly appreciated the fact that the pen is a black, medium ballpoint with specially formulated ink that flows flawlessly for a superior writing experience. She also fell in love with the classic shape and heavy feel to the pen. It just says “substance and class.”
Whether you are celebrating your Marvel-loving Superhero or anyone with a special moment, you are sure to find the perfect graduation gift in the Cross Century® II Marvel Collection and Cross Classic Century® Collection lines.

How are things going for their jobs? It would be fun to see a follow-up post on them (if they didn’t mind of course.) Plus, see some of Kelly’s “doodles.” I thought of this post when I saw my daughter’s daily holidays for today. It is Incredibly Awesome Kid Day. Praise for your superheroes and to you.
Hi Sherry, they are both rocking their worlds. I get to see three of my four kids this weekend. CAN’T wait!!! SHelley
I like that Cross Classic Century, so elegant and professional, and the Iron Man is fun and creative. Writing takes place daily, and this will be a good reminder of your love. It’s Sons and Daughters Day today, and it is beautiful how you write about them. I bet you are their superhero, too.
Love the t-shirts with your super powers! Time certainly flys. I have a 9 and 4 year old and man is time flying. These kinds of posts remind me to slow down and enjoy time with my boys.
