Stuff you Need To Know: Which Side is the Gas Tank On?

December 29, 2010 By Shelley Zurek 40 Comments

New car?  Rental car?  Which side does the gas go in?

gas gauge arrow

My hilarious cousin Erin (an over 45 year old woman)  revealed this truth recently on Facebook..

“I’ve had four different rental cars in the last six weeks, and I called my brother  to complain that I never knew which side of the car the gas tank was on. After telling me, “That’s what you get for living the high life,” he also said, “Look down at your fuel gauge.”  How did I never know there was a little arrow there to keep me from looking like an idiot at the gas station?? (See little tiny arrow next to gas pump, big arrow is pointing to it)  Tell the truth… did you know about this Gas Pump Elbow of Genius?”

Oh yeah, and both of them are my relatives.

Did you know this little known fact about the majority of automobiles?

No, this is news to me. I’m lucky that my husband always fills up the gas tank now that he is retired.

I did go out to my car and it was fun to see it. Would be handy for rental cars.

I recently just learned this. It has come in handy MANY times. I drove one car that didn’t have it, and I was so frustrated. Such an easy little “cue” and so very helpful.

Now I have to go out to my car to see if it has this. Since I keep cars for 10 years or more, I always know where the gas tank is.

If it wasn’t almost midnight and cold, I’d go see, because I have never noticed an arrow, that is so cool! Love to learn new things. Thank you for sharing. 🙂

I had no clue! It seems so blatantly obvious that I now feel like running out to the garage to check! I mean, if it REALLY was there on our vehicles, wouldn’t I have noticed? LOL!

I did NOT know this. I feel so smart now though! But, if HUBS knew this and never told me, he’s in big trouble mister!
