This Top 10 Smartphone Features for Women over 45 is presented in conjunction with my participation in the Verizon Voices Boomer program and I have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.
Top 10 Smartphone Features Battery Life is the Key
As you know, I have previously written as a Verizon Voices Style blogger. Now, I have been chosen to be a Verizon Voices Boomer. The Droid Motorola RAZR MAXX HD was provided to me as my first device to review (and my first Smartphone), and WOWZA, am I lucky!
The Chief Blonde’s Old “Dumbphone”
This is my former Samsung “Dumbphone” which as served me well. It was super durable, had a slide-out keyboard and it was simple to operate. But I AM A BLOGGER, smartphones are essential. Now that I have had the Droid Motorola RAZR MAXX HD for about a month, I realize that smartphones make everyone’s life easier but especially, Women over 45!
Number one Smartphone Feature for Women over 45 or Anyone
These features of a smartphone are definitely in my top ten as shown in the graphic above and all are satisfied by the Motorola MAXX HD:
- Big bold screen helps you to really enjoy the experience
- NFC (Near Field Communication) available to bump others photos, webpages, and docs
- Durability that protects against drops ( MAXX features Gorilla glass and Kevlar body)
- Chrome for Android coupled with Google Play gives you ALL THE APPS
- Whizbang camera is essential (the MAXX has RAZR–sharp HD 1080p video, panorama and multishot)
But without battery life, a smartphone is JUST A BRICK!
DROID RAZR MAXX HD raises the industry standard with seriously insane battery performance. Still impossibly thin at 9.3mm, it’s shorter, narrower, and thinner than most competing LTE smartphones, yet packs more battery power than all others. That’s enough battery power to get you through a full Hollywood trilogy with 13 hours of straight video playback, or spend the entire 8 hour workday browsing the Internet with 4G LTE speeds, or talk the day away with up to 21.5 hours of continuous talk time. With DROID RAZR MAXX HD – never fear off again.
Here’s my new Phone! Isn’t it a beauty?

Loved my Razzor!! But it had some battery issues and would get really super hot…scary!! Verizon told me to toss it and they issued me a new phone!!
Can’t afford the monthly charges. My current phone (I don’t call it DUMB!) costs me about $10 a month.
not yet i can not even use a cell phone i have basic one and they did not tell me how to use it
I love that it is durable.
I have a Samsung S3and I love it. I use it as my main camera too. It’s also something of a mobile office for me.
Those are some great phones! My number one thing with phones is cell phone battery life! That is so important!
Battery life is so important. It’s so frustrating when my husband’s phone dies and it said it was 50% full just half hour ago!
My mom is looking into getting a smart phone for the first time. I will have to show her these things to look at.
Hahaha, ‘dumbphone,’ I’m going to use that! I think the ease of adjusting the screen brightness, and digital keyboard layout options are quite important for women over 45! Also, it’s great to have plenty of customization options, but having the basics ready to go out of the box can be a lifesaver when transitioning!
Ok, I died laughing at how many times you wrote the importance of battery life. Seriously!!! That is my biggest pet peeve with my phone! It only lasts 5 hours! How the heck! Who is going to be home every 5 hours and able to charge up their phone! It is rediculous! Phones now a days need to last more like 12 hours, with how busy and go, go, go people are!
I am in love with the battery life of the Droid Razor! I need that phone specifically for the battery life!!!
Not over 45, but I can so relate to these when I look for my next phone
I totally admit that available apps is HUGE for me. I love having tons to choose from.
lol i love how you list battery life multiple times. I know my battery is always dying (so annoying) so battery life is important!
I LOVE my smart phone. I went far too long without one. It makes my life so much easier. I love it for taking photos and videos too. Your new phone looks amazing!
I have a smart phone and my problem is it eat ups the battery quickly so I am thinking of switching. Battery life is definitely an important factor I consider when getting a new phone.
Haha… yea battery life is really important. It seems that the battery span on phones these days isn’t so great (especially with smart phones), I seem to recall 5 years ago having a phone that lasted 1 week on a single charge. These days I’m lucky if I go a whole day on a single charge with my Blackberry.
Of course Blackberries aren’t exactly the “smartest” phones on the block anymore!
I do not have a smartphone. It doesn’t seem likely that I will get one any time soon either as they are pretty expensive. Unless someone decides to give me one…or I win one.
I’ve heard they have good cameras in them too? Are they good for doing videos? If it could combine both the phone and camera feature…and maybe internet access…I might be able to justify the expense.
A great option for you might be a Smart device, like the Samsung Galaxy camera which can work on a data plan but can also work on wifi. So you get a great camera that can post to instragram, facebook, etc and you can keep your dumb phone. Some plans will let you add a smartdevice for as little as $5 a month. SO check that out. Many smart phones have great cameras.
