Recent Red Lipstick Purchases
Choosing a Red Lipstick
Recently, I have been loving red lipstick! I used to be a light copper/coral kind of girl but I simply cannot find the color anymore (sad face). Now, there is a lot of advice out there regarding red lipstick such as:
- Don’t wear a dark red, it makes thin lips look like lines
- Don’t wear red over 50
- Don’t wear red in tropical climates or in the summer
Seriously, it’s all nonsense. You need to try on red lipsticks for fall 2015 with your clothing and pick the shade that portrays the personality you are trying to project at that particular moment!
Once you have settled on a shade, you need to chose a formulation and a brand. Gloss versus Matte? Drugstore versus Luxury? Long Wearing? High Pigmentation?
Buying Red Lipstick Fall 2015
I find the best way to find a favorite shade is to just try about 7 or 8 different brands in a hue near to your desired shade. Sometimes you can swatch in the store, but in truth, lipstick is all in the “wearing”. That’s what I recently did when I was shopping for red lipstick Fall 2015.
I found a great new site called Splender which allows me to get cash back for every purchase I make from over 800 popular stores. The process for using Splendor is insanely simple.
By scoping out lipstick recommendations of my favorite Youtube beauty bloggers (Pretty Shiny Sparkly, Hot and Flashy, and Grav3YardGirl), I settled on various drugstore and upscale brands of red lipsticks that I wanted to try. I just entered the chosen stores on the Splender site that carried those brands.
And guess what? I got 4% back on my purchases from Walgreen’s and 10% back from Sephora!
I also like how I can stack cash back, coupons, & offers to increase my savings (Example: 15% off sale at the store+ extra 30% off store coupon + 5% Splender cash back = BIG SAVINGS).
For example, on the Wet and Wild Lipstick I bought from Walgreen’s, they were having a buy-one/get-one deal. So in addition to my 4% Splender cash back, I still got to claim that Walgreen’s deal too! Look at all the gorgeous red lipsticks I was able to pick up! Very excited to try them all and the cash saved is a real bonus.
Psst!
You should probably also know that on top of all the savings, Splendor is simple and easy-to-use. You can quickly find stores without being bombarded with irrelevant ads and links. Plus, it’s free to join and use for all your online shopping.
Wow, Splender is paying me to shop for something I was going to buy anyway! There’s nothing like scoring a great deal! I got an email from Splender right away about my Walgreen’s purchase cash back($1.19 back!) Somehow my Sephora order did not get recorded, but Splender has a very simple form to fill out should that snafu happen to you. I will receive $7.10 back from my Sephora order! Imagine $8.29 cash back in total on top of any coupons, specials, store sales, etc. available!
My red lipstick Fall 2015 look is ready now and my pocketbook is smiling now too!

Wow, you got some savings in. I think red looks great as long as you wear it with the right clothing. Love your fall jacket.
Thanks Heather, you can win that jacket here: https://stillblondeafteralltheseyears.com/2015/08/enjoy-summer-rock-fall-janska-olivia/
That is an awesome collection! Splendor sounds like an amazing way to shop!
Red lipstick looks really great on your! A perfect color choice! I need to expand beyond my typical light pink!
I used to wear red lipstick all the time before I had babies. I need to get my tube out
What a great way to do your online shopping. I definitely like that cash back bonus.
how fabulous! It looks great on you. I want one!
Oooh!! Please show us them all when you try them!! I have such a hard time finding good red lipstick because I have a very red toned face!! So almost all of them just look obnoxious!! You have such great color for red!!
Amber, buy bare minerals Concealing powder. It covers everything. The Chief Blonde
I dont do do well with loose powder!! It tend to accentuate my larger pores :/
I love red lipsticks. I have also started wearing a lot of darker purples for fall!
Okay, I had no clue there were these ‘rules’! HA! Thank you so much for sharing. I normally go for more of a maroon… because I am afraid of red.
I love red! It wasn’t until recently though that I really appreciated it. You look wonderful. Great pics!
That outfit is adorable. I’ve never heard of Splender, but I’m definitely going to check them out. I’m a shopaholic. I’m not afraid to admit it. Love the lip colors too!
Looks like a great color on you! I am not a person that wears bold lipstick, I am more of a clear gloss or a very nude lip. I think it is great for those who can pull it off!
I have always loved wearing red lipstick and poo pooed the advice about it. I love to save money and Splender sounds great!
I love red lip stick but feel like I can not pull it off “out”. I had a great collection but my son literally ate them all.
What a great way to save money and still get what you want! Really you almost get paid to shop! I am all in for that! Win/win!
Splender looks like a great way to get rewarded for everyday purchases. Do they have an application I can download too? It’s almost time to buy a Fall wardrobe and I could use the extra incentives 🙂
Hi Jenna, Don’t know if there is an app at this time. Pretty sure no but they are so new. Wait for it!! Shelley
This is so cool! Anyone who knows me knows I’m all about the cash back. Thanks so much!
Splender sounds really cool! I’m always on the lookout for another money saving tool to add to my arsenal.
Not everyone can pull off fire engine red lipstick, but you totally rock it. You are one sexy mama.
Back in the dark ages when I wore makeup I never had luck with red. I tried – even had help but was just never able to find one that worked. Some things are just not meant to be. Now I go with pale and chapped.
