Recycled Soapstone, Sparq Pizza Stone Review

May 31, 2014 By Shelley Zurek 296 Comments

Experience the uniqueness of recycled soapstone

Sparq Pizza Stone

What is Recycled Soapstone?

In most quarries, up to 80% of all soapstone mined is deemed waste or scrap material. In an effort to regain control of soapstone waste and make useful a stone that has so much to offer, Sparq Home founders Steven Chavez and Justin English have set out to clean up the disastrous quarries worldwide and find a purpose for the discarded soapstone. This is where SPARQ Home was born.

Sparq Home Soapstone Products

Top to Bottom: Soapstone serving slabs–various sizes ($20-$60), Sparq Wine Notes ($5), Slate Cheese Board ($30), Soapstone Griddle ($100)

still blondeThe Chief Blonde Remarks: Sparq Home sent along a Soapstone Flat Bread Pizza Stone for our review. What I noticed right away upon opening was the heft of this pizza stone–very substantial and elegant. Recycled soapstone is non-porous, tasteless and is bacteria resistant. It can be heated up to 1200 degrees and is washable with mild soap and water. I like that all of Sparq’s stone products are eco-friendly because they are handmade with soapstone from factory excess. I also like that they are made in the USA in Colorado.

Sparq Pizza Stone flatbread

The Sparq flatbread pizza stone is perfect for Walt and I as we like making pizzas from FlatOuts (they are 100 calories each). The Spark Pizza Stone cooks pizzas made on FlatOuts perefectly and I can serve the pizza right on the stone when I take it from the oven!

I like the Soapstone Pizza Stone 16″ with Marble Trivet, because it is big enough for a large pizza or lots of fries or bread rolls or whatever. I love that it has a trivet so I can take it right to the table and the food would stay hot.

    I like the Oven-to-Table Entertainment Platter with Carrier (16 X 8).
It’s made from recycled soapstone and stays heated or chilled so helps keep your food for entertaining at the proper temperature.

I like the Soapstone Pizza Stone 12″ because I cook pizza a lot and I like how it being 12″ prevents me from making the pizza too big.

I like the Tiny Bowls slant. It would be nice to have an attractive set of small bowls and I really like the way it’s slanted as opposed to straight.

I’m really interested in the Soapstone Pizza Stone 16″(with Marble Trivet) because my boyfriend and I love making pizza especially Bacon & Asparagus Pizza and this Pizza stone would help us get a crispier crust and overall better tasting pizza. The Marble Trivet would allow us to move the pizza and the pizza stone right to the table.

I like the Soapstone Mortar & Pestle – Sphere. I like it because we are growing our own spices, and this would help us make them powder. 🙂

I loved the Mortar & Pestle – Tube | because it reminded me of my childhood. As a child watching my grandmother and mother pounding various herbs and spices was boring but these memories are precious to me now.
