Puzzle Baron and Complete Idiots Guide Puzzle Book Review

June 1, 2012 By Shelley Zurek

Puzzle your Way through the Summer with Puzzle Baron and CIG

still blondeThe Chief Blonde Remarks:   Featured in our Review  today are: The Complete Idiot’s Guide® to Picture Puzzles, Volume 2 (ISBN: 9781615641390, January 2012, $10.95, Authors: The Editors and Designers of Alpha Books); Puzzle Baron’s Sudoku (ISBN: 9781615641215, September 2011, $9.95, Author: Stephen P. Ryder); Puzzle Baron’s Logic Puzzles, Volume 2 (ISBN: 9781615641529, February 2012, $14.95, Author: Stephen P. Ryder)   You couldn’t ask for better reading/puzzle books for your summer vacation or staycation!  Each of these books provides its own brand of puzzle fun IMO!

The Complete Idiot’s Guide® to Picture Puzzles is just what you think it would be with several pictures, side by side and you have to spot the differences.  This is volume 2 of this book, so you can always go back and get Volume 1 as well.   I loved the book because the pictures were big and bright.  It’s broke down into easy, medium, difficult and advanced sections noting in each how many changes there are to each photo!  This helped me a lot along with the clearly marked ANSWERS page.  Teehee!

Puzzle Baron’s Sudoku  is a typical Sudoku book which is just what I want.  When I want to do some good Sudoku, I want it to be straight forward.  One nice twist that I have never seen in a Sudoku book before is there are a few pages of tips in the beginning…which is super helpful.  I know a lot of solution tricks, but I am always open for a few more.  This book would be great for those lazy summer afternoons on the back porch, rainy indoor “I’m Bored” days, or LONG car trips.

Puzzle Baron’s Logic Puzzles, Volume 2  is my favorite of the grouping.  Because I am a woman over 45, I realize how important it is to keep your brain SHARP.  The older we get, the more we need to push ourselves to keep our brain functioning and learning.  This book tells you the average completion time, high scores and more to push you along.  In conjunction with the book, you can visit Logic-Puzzles.org, part of the Puzzle Baron Network  of Puzzle sites (PuzzleBaron.org) and get “Logical” to your hearts content.  Each page has a grid-based tool to help you solve the logic puzzle.  I am particularly horrible at these, but get a huge rush when I solve one.  Twisted I know…

You will find these books perfect for Father’s Day, that new Grad who think they know everything (these books will be humbling), and for summertime fun.
