One Woman’s Breast Cancer Journey & the paths of her supporters
This “One Journey Many Paths” discussion is brought to you today by Saint Agnes Hospital
“One Journey Many Paths”
The concept behind “One Journey Many Paths” is based on an inspirational video which shares a breast cancer journey from the perspective of the patient’s husband, daughters and friends. Today, we’d like to bring you the story of Tami Scovitch, a breast cancer survivor. When Tami received her breast cancer diagnosis, she started on a new beginning. The journey brought Scovitch to the Saint Agnes Hospital Cancer Institute and brought her family closer together.
Scovitch came to Saint Agnes after finding a lump on New Year’s Day 2013. The results of her mammogram and biopsy showed that she had breast cancer. The comprehensive team of specialists at the Saint Agnes Cancer Institute quickly met with Scovitch, her husband Tony, and their two daughters, to present a treatment plan for the next six months to a year and answer all the questions they had. That plan included heavy doses of support from Scovitch’s family and friends.
“It was my journey,” Scovitch said. “But others walked with me.”
Please take a moment to watch and listen to the poignant reactions of Tami’s husband, daughters, sister and a member of the volunteer firehouse, where Tami was President of the Auxiliary. It’s a lovely tribute. The video “One Journey Many Paths” serves to highlight how Tami’s diagnosis made a change in each of their paths and they learned to cherish each moment together during Tami’s journey.
Realities of Breast Cancer:
The reality is this:
- There is no way to prevent breast cancer — but through regular mammograms and at-home self exams, it can be caught early, which is a woman’s best chance for survival.
- Who is affected? Mostly women age 40+, with the majority of diagnoses being given to women age 50+.
- 79% of new cases and 88% of breast cancer deaths occurred in women age 50 and over.
Saint Agnes Comprehensive Breast Center at Saint Agnes Hospital presents highly recognized physicians at the forefront of advanced techniques, equipment and clinical trials. They have developed a microsite called “One Jouney Many Paths”, which is meant to encourage women and their family and friends to understand breast cancer, talk openly about the disease and make breast health a priority.

Her sister Tracy affected me the most especially when she teared up. My husband went to the hospital with severe pains and found out that day he had colon cancer. They removed some of his colon and later we found out that it was all removed and didn’t need any other treatment. His brother and two of his uncles died from the same thing so we are very fortunate and blessed with his outcome.
I have been affected by lots of cancer unfortunately none of my family members survived except my uncle Joe and he has been in remission for a while! I would love to win this for him and my aunt!
Kristin’s story impacted me. It made me think about how I would feel if my mom had cancer.
This was tough but Tammy’s sister definately affected me.
I would like to win this for my mother in law, she is diabetic and was just told that she must likely has cancer now.
Tami story because it makes me wonder if this happens to be how would my husband and kids respond and how would I respond myself.
Tami!
I was really touched and affected by Tamis story. The overall video had a powerful message!
My mother-in-law is a breast cancer survivor. She would never use this, BUT, I imagine that sometime in the future, she will be living with us, and I would certainly prepare many many things for her, with the Vitamix!
Having just celebrated my 41st wedding anniversary, I could not imagine how devastating it would be to find out that my husband had cancer. I would rather battle this dreaded disease myself, that to have my husband or children be stricken… so I would say that it was Tami’s husbands journey that touched me the most.
It is for grandma and me she is a Uterine cancer survivor and I and am going through yucky gross skin cancer.
They all impressed me but seeing tami’s smile just made me cry.
Tami’s sister was most relatable to me because I went through the same thing with my sister. She was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer but she beat it! She was at my house when the doctor called to confirm her CA125 results. We were devastated because when you hear that your sister has cancer you are faced with a very real possibility that you may lose her. She is one of the bravest people I have ever known.
The daughters story.
Cancer scares me more than anything.
I would love to win this for a friend of mine who has had a few scares with cancer in the last year and is currently working through them. I’d love to be a blessing to her.
Tracy’s path I feel like I could relate to the most. I too have a strong relationship with my sisters and know that if anything like this were to happen to one of us, we’d be there fighting all the way.
Out of everyone in the video, I agree that the husband’s story had a big impact on me just for the sheer fact that if my significant other found out they had cancer, I would be devastated and he had such a positive and supportive outlook on the situation.
The spouse’s journey hit home. My husband had colon cancer, at age 45. We got through, he’s now going to be 53 in a couple of months and is a SURVIVOR. Because of this, I could really relate to what Tami’s husband is going through.
I would like to win this for my dear friend- she has always shown grace, humor and strength in her fight against cancer. and she has fought it twice.
Tami’s daughter, Jessica… wow.. just amazing.
