New Fashion Trend: What is a Shacket?

November 28, 2020 By Shelley Zurek 279 Comments

What is a Shacket? It’s fun when a new fashion trend category emerges and YOU know about it first! This trend is one that will resonate across the whole country! No matter what state you are from, the winter calls for a little extra warmth, whether outside or in!  Make sure to check out my explanation of “What is Shacket” then head over to Shopbop for all their CyberWeekend deals of 20% off almost everything (look for items marked BLACK FRIDAY). Use code SHOP20 to get 20% off with a $200 purchase.

What is a Shacket?

What is a Shacket

A shacket is a wonderful combination between a shirt and a jacket, like the black and white shacket from Line and Dot above which adds an additional design feature of a knotted belt.

What is a Shacket

Usually the shacket is plaid, with a shirttail hem. You will often find quilting in at least the body or the linking of a shacket.

Common outer materials are cotton flannel, wool  or a blanket-like fleece. Sleeves on the shacket can be worn scrunched or left unfolded to just below the elbow or fully extended to the wrist.

I have noted that the shacket is often styled with a single column of color underneath, especially black or white, to really make the coat itself pop out. However, I can see all denim, gray or navy underneath a shacket as well.

I have worn this trend for a long time as I have a vintage buffalo plaid Woolrich shacket. It’s quilted inside and cotton plaid on the outside. It’s divine and I wear it inside my house about four days a week when I get chilled. It is one of the few things I have actually worn out. I have had to trim off frayed edges of my shacket and put on elbow patches. Are you up for a shacket? Either way at least now you know, what is a shacket!

I think I’d go with the Line & Dot Harris Jacket if I could. It could be dressed up or down and I’m more of a black/white style person.
