Moving Picture Books Saves Sanity for Women over 45!

December 13, 2009 By Shelley Zurek

 (S. Zurek)
Second in our series, for the Consumer’s Electronic Show 2010, coming up in January in Las Vegas!

Moving Picture Books, an innovative new concept in children’s literacy that turns classic children’s stories into digital downloads for use on mobile handheld devices like iPods, cell phones and smart phones. Each of the 44 stories available can be viewed with English or Spanish voiceover, and with or without the read-along English text displayed on the screen.

Children spend an excessive amount of time in front of televisions, computers and video games. A recent Nielsen Company study showed that children aged 2 -11 are watching more television than they have in years, with children 2-5 years of age spending more than 32 hours per week in front of a screen. With Moving Picture Books, that time can be entertaining as well as a learning experience.

Educators and child development experts have said that Moving Picture Books’ use of digital storytelling engages young readers and enhances fluency, literacy and vocabulary.

Chief Blonde’s Remarks:   I would have killed for this app when my kids were little.  How amazing to have all their books right on my phone for them to look at while wheeling through Wal-mart.  I would have saved a fortune on food, as I would buy them Yoplait yogurts and Tootsie Pop suckers to eat in the store just to keep them quite until I got done shopping!  These are so cute!  You can play the books in Spanish as well, or with no words.  The words are each highlighted so that the kids can read along!  Seems like this could be a successful app for harried parents or grandparents.
