Is T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+ Plan Right for Me?

August 17, 2017 By Shelley Zurek 28 Comments

Hey Baby! We need a Cell Phone plan…

Walt and I love to get out and go! Everywhere we head, whether to a MSU football game or a trip to Myrtle Beach, we have our cell phones with us and ready to go. Hey, we might want to Snapchat our kids or text our parents or send a quick Facebook message to a friend. Isn’t that what most couples over 55 are doing these days? Well, we are and so are many of our friends!

Introducing the Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+ ($60 for two lines!)

Did you know there are cell phone plans that specifically target the over 55+ age group? That’s pretty cool because our age group uses as much data as Millennials! However, many of the plans offered don’t really address the needs of Americans aged 55 and over. For example: AT&T’s Senior Nation Plan gives subscribers just 200 anytime minutes and 500 night & weekend minutes—and ZERO data. In fact, it’s limited to basic phones only.

WHAT? All my friends (and parents too) have smart phones not basic phones. Are we living in the dark ages? Interestingly enough, of the 93 million Americans in the U.S. over age 55, 74 percent of them have a smartphone.

Thankfully, T-Mobile just introduced T-Mobile ONE™ Unlimited 55+, designed specifically for consumers aged 55 and older  – anyone from Baby Boomers, to retirees, to empty nesters, and the price is STUNNING. Right now Walt and pay $107/month for our smart phone plan from Verizon. That’s way too much for two people. Now here’s the good news!

  • $60 for TWO! The pricing for T–Mobile ONE™ Unlimited 55+ is $50 for the first line of T–Mobile ONE and $60 for two lines for those 55 and older! Extra bonus? Taxes & fees are included! Yes, you read that right! I bet those of you who aren’t 55+ wish you were!

Is T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+ Plan Right for Me?

It sure is right for me! With Walt being retired and trying to keep our costs down, Walt and I are heading over to the store to see if T-Mobile will work in our area. Cell phones are the number one way people in our age group connect with family and friends. Since the kids left home, we were so happy to have a lower cell phone bill, but really our cost per line has gone up since taking the kids off the family plan. WAY UP! With T-Mobile, it will cost us $60 all in…period.

I also like that the T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+ plan includes all these items at no extra cost:

  • Mobile Without Borders: Go to Mexico or Canada? Use you phone like you’re at home
  • Simple Global: smart plans for calling in over 140+ countries
  • Gogo Inflight: text and 1 hour of smart phone use on domestic flights (Incredible!)
  • Digits: Use your numbers on your devices like YOU need to
  • Mobile Hotspot: Tether away!
  • Carrier Freedom: Talk to T-mobile and see if they will cover your costs to switch to them
  • T-Mobile Tuesdays: Free Stuff just for being a customer

It’s so scary to me to change companies. I have been with AT&T since the beginning. I like my plan. But now that you can’t get a phone upgrade with out owing tones on money for a new phone it crazy. I see people that hope around from carrier to carrier get a new phone for free. Thanks for the info.

Personally, I miss telephone booths. They’re still good for phone calls, even if you provide the phone, and they can help you stay out of the rain!

That is an awesome way to save money. I love that cell phone companies are adapting to our needs!
