How Many States Start with M? What to do in States that start with M?

May 29, 2014 By Shelley Zurek 32 Comments

Every thought about traveling the USA alphabetically?

“How many States Start with M” post is a Fashionista Events Opportunity.

States that Start with M

How Many States Start with M?

Ever thought about traveling the USA in a different way? How about alphabetically? Geographically it might not make sense to do it all at one time, but you if you spread it over the course of the year it would be possible. For example, how many states start with M?  There are actually 8. The “M” states could be traveled in one long cross country haul.

  • Missouri
  • Mississippi
  • Minnesota
  • Massachusetts
  • Maine
  • Montana
  • Michigan
  • Maryland

What to do in states that start with M?

What to do in Missouri?

Visit the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO or watch the Missouri Epic Tales Video for more ideas.

What to do in Mississippi?

Take a paddle boat ride on the Mighty Mississippi River.

Steam boat ride

What to do in Minnesota?

Visit the Mall of America. It sounds weird to recommend shopping but once you have gone you will see the Mall of America is SOOOOO much more than a shopping trip.

Mall of america Minnesota

What to do in Massachusetts?

Visit a Salt Box style house.  Massachusetts has some of the earliest architecture in America. Every part of the state has interesting design to develop your inner housing interests.

 What to do in Maine?

While in Maine, you eat lobster. Duh!

What to do in Montana?

Montana means “mountain” in Spanish. I would recommend seeing a mountain while in Montana. How about the Bridger Range in Bozeman, Montana?

Bozeman_Mountains_Bridger_Range Montan

What to do in Michigan?

Michigan is an abundance of natural resources including Tahquamenon Falls, 5 Great Lakes, and an unspoiled upper Pennisula.  One thing you shouldn’t miss is a Michigan autumn.  Come and take a color tour!

What to do in Maryland?

In Maryland, you can visit Inner Harbor. It’s one of America’s oldest seaports dating from the 1600s.

If you were visiting the States alphabetically, which letter would you visit first?

I know I live in one but if you asked me to count, I might not be able to. LOL!

This is a very cool idea! I’ve been to three of the eight — I’ve always wanted to see a St. Louis Cardinals game! Montana looks beautiful!

I did notice one thing, though — I don’t think Niagara Falls is in Michigan. (I could be mistaken, but I’m fairly certain it’s in NY and Canada).

I think I have been to 6 of the 8 Mippy. I haven’t been to Montana or Minnesota (and may never as I hate the cold).

Massachusetts is my favorite, but I’m partial- half my family is there! Ironically, I do not appreciate the fresh seafood in the Maine/Mass backyard like they do! And I’d visit Alaska, I have ALWAYS wanted to go on a cruise there, I even have a vacation fund set up for it!

Traveling by alphabet is such a cool idea. I really love so many of the M states. I even live in one. Maine is lovely and I am really looking forward to going to MO soon.

    What a great idea….thanks!!!!

Bytheway, I’m from Maryland and there’s so much more than the Inner Harbor. Frederick County is the best place ever, George Washington slept there many many times….history in the making.

Hi Donna, yes I know there is a lot more to do! I went to a crab bake and almost featured that. Maryland just has too many fun things. Hard to decide, ya know? Thanks so much for commenting. The chief Blonde

I’m starting to get the travel bug! I’ve found the older I get the more I want to explore. My husband has traveled all over the country so he’s kind of seen it all but we’ve made it part of our bucket list to get out and explore the country one state at a time!

What a great idea for organizing your travel bucket list. I was born in an M state (Minnesota) and have been to four of the others you’ve listed. Time to get traveling to the others! Super videos and ideas. Thank you for sharing… and making me want to hit the road!

Because it’s beautiful and mostly in its natural state, not completely overrun by civilization. Different!

We’re going to try Missouri (St. Louis) and Michigan this fall as side trips to Illinois. This is a pretty fun way to look at the diversity of our country, for sure. Commenting from California!

Michigan is great to visit in the fall and summer (but not the winter, lol). MA also has some great things to see, I was born there and a lot of my relatives still live there.

We want to take a special family vacation next year, someplace different than our usual (which means not Disney). This gives me some food for thought. The Maine Lobster is calling me! My college roomie lives in Branson, MO and I’d love to go visit here there.
