Have you heard of Swyping or Swype? Typing may soon be passe!

June 22, 2010 By Shelley Zurek

Newest Technology from Swype makes Touchscreen Typing a Breeze!

How many times have you “Fat-fingered” your typing on your new fancy phone and ended up with Gobble-dy-gook?  While not available yet on Iphone or Apple products, a new technology called “Swype” is currently available on 7 smartphones on various platforms.  By year end, Swype technology will be operating on over 50 models worldwide.

Currently Swype is available for Android phones. A limited edition Beta for your Android phone can be downloaded here:  http://beta.swype.com/ My son has this lovely little Beta on his new Android phone–it is COOOOOOL!  Watch the video below to see Swyping for yourself!

So what do you think?  Do you think Swyping will overtake typing? Women over 45 is this a relevant technology for you?

It is cool and would certainly help with texting on a phone, but I like to be able to type without having to look at my hands. In fact, my kids think I am a freak because I will often watch tv, look at them and carry on a conversation, etc and type at the same time. I guess I won’t have to worry for a while, though. I don’t plan to upgrade any of my gadgets soon.

I learned to type on a manual typewriter in HS There were only 5 electrics so we only got to use them occassionally! And I'm only 54. Incredible changes! I think swype will definitely be the way on phones and maybe tiny laptops. Whether it is faster than regular typing remains to be seen. I think it could be eventually. It strikes me that unlike typing, you have to look while you are doing it tho I'm sure that can be changed with texture for example. Can't wait to try it.
Thank you for showing. I hadn't heard.

Wow… I wonder if my old fingers that learned to type "correctly" would be able to find all the letters? I'm sure my kids, who all type faster than me, and only use 2 fingers, would LOVE this! Only one Android phone in the family so far tho' – and it's an iphone 🙁 so we can't try it. Will when I have a chance though! 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

I love this. My fat fingers get in the way all the time….I am so slow at texting my children take the phone from me and type it for me because they get tired of watching me type a three word response….lol.
