Fifty Shades of Grey Review, Women over 45 Respond (Ellen Degeneres)

May 16, 2012 By Shelley Zurek 36 Comments

Fifty Shades of Grey Review by E.L James, My Response Exactly!

Ellen-DeGeneres-Fifty-Shades-of-Grey

Ellen Degeneres, Dramtic Reading of E. L. James, fifty Shades of Grey

Watch the Video below to see Ellen Degeneres take on these smutty Novels that have Women over 45 blushing!

Fifty Shades of Grey Review–The Non-review of this Trilogy

I am not going to go into the detail of these novels, the Shades of Grey Trilogy by E.L. James,  other than comment that Erotica, S&M, and sex dominated books are NOT my idea of books that should be occupying the #1, #2, and #3 spot on the New York Times best seller list.  REALLY?  No… I haven’t read them, nor do I have any interest.  Ellen’s response is pretty much my own, but her face and expressions are funnier so I let her say it for me!

I am not even going to ask you what YOU think…But I know you will tell me ANYWAY!

LOL…you know I never even realized that this was what this book was about…hmm, you really wouldn’t think it from the name and cover. I thought it was just a romance novel.

I work at a library (and am far below that age group). I’m just waiting for the furious people demanding it be removed from the shelves. I’ve had several people request it simply because it’s on the bestsellers list, and from the conversation, it didn’t particularly sound like they knew what it was about. They’ll have quite a shock!

Ellen is hilarious and I love her reaction!

Hi Sarah, That is a little funny! My mother-in-law saw it on a talk show and understood it to be a “Romance” novel. She said it was very….Well, she said “We youngsters shouldn’t read it”. AHAHAHAHA. I can only imagine. Not sure I would want to share this book with others in a library situation. teehee EWWWWWWWWWWWWW.. The Chief Blone

I have seen this book popping up around the blogosphere, and when I saw that our own Chief Blonde had a blog post about it, I had to read it. I heard about it on the radio today–a woman defending why she was reading it and complaining that her husband looks at porn sites.

I am not an Ellen fan, but I find it interesting that if Ellen (one of the most liberal women out there) could not read it straight, I certainly wouldn’t consider reading it now.

While I had read books before with a steamy scene here or there (for reviews mainly), this book goes way beyond anything I would ever consider. I almost feel dirty just thinking about it!

Ruth, I so very much agree. I could tell that Ellen wasn’t kidding either. But it was so funny to see her face. The Chief Blonde

Okay! You know I’m not quite in that age category, and I’m ashamed to admit that my curiosity got the better of me. I too had seen reference to it via Twitter and Instagram, and assumed that it was an Oprah-book-club/approved book (or along those lines.). I was shocked to see the SNL skit (and that’s when my curiosity got the best of me. I read the first sex scene, to gauge just how bad the “porn” was. It was…..not good reading. I’m not into that kind of thing at all. And I wish I could burn the words from my mind, lol! I think now the most surprising thing is that everyone is so open about reading and/or loving it. It seems like novels like this are not that different from watching porn (and yes, I see the contradiction of revealing that I’ve read it.). It seems like the kind of personal thing I might share with my very, very close friends, but I wouldn’t think it’s the kind of thing people would openly tweet about! Does that make sense (and I swear I’m not judging anyone!)? Anyway, good for all of you who have chosen to not read it. You aren’t missing anything, I promise. On an entirely different note, the book is written in first-person narrative, which is not my preferred style for reading. Also, I love Ellen…..she is so hilarious!

I quite agree Erin. I think many people of any ages would have that reaction.

Haha I love Ellen! I will not be reading this either I’m not into that kind of stuff so what sense does it make to read about it, I have no idea why these books are on the top list I think people have just been reading them out of curiosity

I am over 45 and truthfully, been there, done that. Don’t need to read someone’s poorly written amateur porn.

I am the only one in the office over 50 and was encouraged by “the girls” to read the series. Needless to say I skipped through all the steamy parts, lol. But I like Ellen’s version.

I am not into S&M but I did purchase the books. I am 53 and was curious about the books. They are risque but harmless reading material. It does not bother me to read as I like to read all different kinds of material. I do stop at hard core porn however and this is not that. To each their own I guess is what I would say here!

Didn’t the author come out and say she’s not even into all that gross/disturbing stuff recently? (s&m).
I didn’t even hear about this book until a few days ago.

OMG, I am cracking up! Especially when she pulls out the paddle ball!! Have you read the reviews of this book on Amazon? The first one (at least it was the first one) was from a retired gynecologist – it was too funny!

I’d heard the title a few times but didn’t know anything about it until my mom asked if I was reading it and told me about it. Now, I’m not shy about things, so I considered adding it to my wishlist… but then I started seeing reviews from fellow bloggers and a couple friends, and everyone says it’s poorly written, repetitive, and otherwise very bad. Blech, I’m not reading that! I have way better things to read than poorly written, boring books, and if I want to delve into more erotic stuff, there are some great romance writers out there I’ve discovered. I’ll stick with them and steer clear of 50 Shades.

I was wondering what that book was about! Hey if a person is into that, fine but I am with you that I don’t see how they could be bestsellers. I think people are just curious LOL>

I got to a minute in the video and had to stop because my 6 year old came over, the sound effects were funny!
