Essentia Classic Pillow Review

September 2, 2013 By Shelley Zurek

Wouldn’t you appreciate a NATURAL Memory Foam Pillow?

Essentia Classic Pillow Review

Essentia Classic Pillow Review

Essentia Classic Pillow $199

For this Essentia Classic pillow review, I was provided samples for review.

still Blonde after all these YEARSThe Chief Blonde Remarks: I was sent an Essentia Classic Pillow for review.  I currently sleep on a Latex Pillow so I was excited to contrast the Essentia Classic pillow to my own.  The Essentia Classic pillow is made from Natural Memory Foam. Essentia and Tempur-pedic are the only Natural Memory Foam pillow producers in the North America.

What is NATURAL memory foam?

Essentia Natural Memory Foam is is made using hevea milk (rubber tree sap). It feels like the memory foam we all know and love, but it’s made without the gunk. Gunk you say?  Yes, other memory foam manufactures claim to have eco memory foam, plant-based foam or containing natural properties, boasting green tea memory foam, Bio-Pur memory foam or soy memory foam.  But alas, as noted by Essentia, in all cases, petroleum based foam is used, with 2-15% of the petroleum being replaced with soy or cedar oil, allowing the product to be promoted as “natural” or “eco-friendly”.  Not very “Natural” in my book.

Latex Pillows versus Natural Memory Foam Pillows?

Latex mattresses are known for being durable, natural and healthy. Memory foam mattresses are known for their pressure relief and comfort…but are full of gunk. That’s why Essentia  invented a natural memory foam. Essentia has an extensive discussion on this topic over on their website which I found fascinating. Yes, it’s a discussion presented by the manufacturer of Natural Memory Foam.  I found it to be quite balanced. Read: What’s better, Latex or Memory Foam Mattresses?

My final weigh in of Natural Memory Foam versus Latex

I love my Latex pillow. I have had one since I was tiny due to my excessive allergies to feather pillows. When I tried the Essentia Classic Pillow, I was dubious. The Classic pillow is made from 100% Natural Memory Foam, weighs in at 5 pounds, and is designed to mold itself to your exact body shape to evenly distribute head and neck weight, reducing pressure that often causes stiffness, poor sleep, and pain. Essentia Products are made in Canada

Each night when I slept on the pillow, I had a hard time going to sleep.  It was not “My” pillow so I think it took some time to develop a comfortable relationship with it. On the flip side, each morning I woke up from a deep sleep, lovely dreams and no aches and pains. My latex pillows always take some time to get rid of the “Smell” before I can sleep on them. Not true with the Classic Essentia. I slept on it from the first night I received it and noticed no latent smell.  My overall opinion?  Better than almost all  other pillow I have slept on and equivalent to my latex pillow.

Watch this video from the Dr. OZ!  He lets you know what he thinks of the pillow!

The comfort or the classic would be great. It’s too bad that Essentia doesn’t make a pillow like my Better Sleep/arm tunnel pillow. Hubby and I are always fighting over it!

I like the Forma Spa, because it is for back & side sleepers.

I like the Ergonomic pillow because it is shaped to fit rbetween my neck and head. I don’t like a pillow right under my head. I like it to form in the crook of my neck.

My favorite is the ergonomic pillow because it looks the most comfortable.

I like the swayback pillow because I like a flatter pillow when I sleep.

I think the classic would work best for me. I like it because it looks like a nice size, thickness, and would allow me to sleep in whichever position I’m wanting. Sometimes back, sometimes side, sometimes tummy.

I would say Comfort, I change sleeping positions frequently and this sounds like one that would conform the best

I just went to try their pillows this weekend at the store. Classic was my favorite. I’d love to get their body pillow as well but need to get a king size bed! Hope I win 🙂

I’d like the travel pilllow becauee it is so difficult to get comfortable and actually sleep on a plane, train or automobile.

Forma Spa or Travel pillow would be nice. I swear I live with a terminal neck ache and I would love a decent neck support.

I like the comfort pillow because I sleep all over the place and it adjusts:)

The SwayBack pillow provides good neck support and is great for back sleepers so this could also be good for me because I have had two back surgeries (left with nerve damage) and was recently in a rear-end collision so I now have neck issues to go with my back issues.

It’s a toss-up. The Forma Spa (I do switch from sides to back all night long) or the SwayBack. 🙂
