How to Dress for Your Personality: Mood Hues

Outfits modeled by women over 45 features Ellen Dolgen of Menopause Mondays fame and EllenDolgen.com. She shares her wonderful fashion sense with us today. Ellen is an outspoken women’s health and wellness advocate, menopause awareness expert, author, and speaker.  I adore Ellen’s style and I know you will too!  Ellen is a personal blogging friend. I was not compensated in any way for this post.

Feel good about yourself through color

September, the month of fashion, is all about designer collections, models on the catwalks, and the September issue of Vogue, a whopper at 902 glossy pages!

Trends come and go as seasons pass, but one simple thing is my focus when it comes to style:  what makes me feel good about myself.

Pant silhouettes drift  from skinny to wide, dress lengths go up and down, but regardless what the experts advise, I dress in what lifts my spirit and helps me feel confident, sexy, and self expressive! Fashion elevates my mood and feeds my soul. I adore it! Beauty, style, and fashion give joy and wellbeing to my life. I discovered  this  TED series which gives 6 talks on on beauty. I find it to be perfectly on point.

Want to know how you can show off  the true you this season? These colors will reflect every part of you!

Seeing Red!

Ellen Dolgen Menopause Mondays Red Dress Cropped
When I’m in a super-sexy mood (thanks, hormone replacement therapy!), I love to play it up with a red, Jessica Rabbit number. Research makes it clear that I’m not the only one. A hot-off-the-presses study just published in Psychological Science shows that women are 3.5 times more likely to don red during the most fertile days of their cycle. What’s the reason? Women crave sex when they are ovulating (aka: more likely to get pregnant). Goodness knows, I’m definitely not getting pregnant any time soon, but that doesn’t mean the ruby hue won’t  get me some extra loving. Interestingly, the University of Rochester has recent research that establishes that men are more drawn to a woman when she is wearing red. Guess what I’m wearing to date night with my husband?

Calming Blue

Ellen Dolgen Menopause Mondays

The beach is the most calming place I know.  It’s the combination of the sunsets, the sand, and most importantly, the bright blue waves!  Whether I need to feel ultra-cool and calm—or am just trying to take my anxiety down a notch, I reach for the blue hue. Be it a blue dress or my preferred stretch blue jeans, the sky is the limit! According to  Utah Valley University experts, just seeing the color blue slashes stress. I’d have to say, it works for me!

Sunny clothes = sunny personality!

My mood just adores a generous dose of yellow. Don’t be shy; try it out! I can assure that  you won’t look like a walking, talking, banana. I believe the key is keeping the color on top of your torso. Yellow draws attention up to your gorgeous face! Try pairing a yellow shirt, jacket, scarf or jewelry with some incredible blue jeans.

Fuschia for Fun

Fuschia! Menopause Mondays

When it comes to color, the brighter the better! Which is why fuchsia is my favorite shade of pink. Flirty, feminine, and full of fun, seeing myself in this color just makes me happy! Plus, it perfectly transitions from day to night. Switch your oh-so casual sandals with some saucy heels and you’re guaranteed to stand out in any cocktail party’s sea of black dresses!

Orange is the New Black

Orange is the New Black Ellen Dolgen Menopause Mondays

A true bold color statement, orange is the new black. But all jokes aside, I find that wearing orange makes me feel peppy, don’t you? That is why I chose this orange jacket when I spoke at the Naval Base San Diego. Energized, creative, and open, that’s what I want to be! No wonder I am surrounded in a sea of orange! If going all in orange is a little brighter than what you are used to, then try adding a pop of orange to your accessories. After all, what’s better than an orange patent-leather purse? (If you find one,can I borrow it?)

We are beautiful on the inside and out—so let’s show it off this and every season! Our wardrobes provide the perfect opportunity to show the world everything we love about our personalities and selves—and trust me, there should be a whole slew of things on your self-love list! So go out there and strut your stuff!

Remember: Reaching out is IN! Suffering in silence is OUT!

I’m not over 45, and I think these outfits look great!! I don’t think I’d wear all orange, but I’d definitely add a pop of color in an orange patent leather purse.

Wonder what I’m gonna be like when those days roll around because my family says they can tell my mood by the way I’m dressed already, lol.

Oh the lovely Ellen is just brilliant!!! I always knew my husband loved me in red, (which I though was odd cause I think it doesn’t look good on me) but now I know why! lol.

But really I love these color outfit tips from Ellen. It all makes perfect sense too! I love wearing blues to help calm me too!
