Drug Free Pain Relief in Panama City

Recently, Walt and I visited Panama City, Panama, you know, that place where the Panama Canal was built was built in 1914? Our adventures took us all over the city for 10 days and we just didn’t stop. It was intense walking, climbing, bumping along in a tour van, I was always worried that Walt’s back would act up.

Walt hung out with a sloth that was crossing the road in the rainforest.
Walt swung on vines and hiked through the rainforest. He cruised the Panama canal.

As you can see, our trip was very active. Each night when I got back to the hotel, I collapsed on the bed. But each night when Walt got back to the hotel, he used the Wireless Omron AVAIL TENS Device which we brought along with us.

What is the Wireless Omron AVAIL TENS Device? Drug Free Pain Relief ?

Wireless Omron Avail Tens Device is  an innovative over-the-counter medical device for safe and effective drug-free pain relief. Avail is Omron’s first TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) unit with wireless and dual channel capability that provides relief from chronic and acute pain. The device can treat multiple pain sites simultaneously and is controlled by Omron’s new mobile app, Omron TENS, enabling users to operate Avail remotely.

A therapy regularly administered by physical therapists and chiropractors, TENS sends stimulating pulses across the surface of the skin and along the nerve strands. The pulses help prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. Electrical stimulation can also trigger the body to release endorphins, which act as natural painkillers, and improve blood circulation. Omron was the first company to market with an over-the-counter FDA-cleared TENS medical device for use at home.

The Omron Avail comes with two soft, contoured pads that fit comfortably and securely to treat a variety of areas of pain simultaneously. Avail’s five pre-programmed Body Pain Modes soothe lower back, shoulder, knee, elbow and leg pain with recommended therapies. Avail users can also design their own therapies using five additional pulsation modes – including steady, acupuncture-like, knead, tap and microcurrent – and 20 different intensity levels.

Learned that there are 5 massage modes and 20 pain levels. Love that so much especially for my father in law who is already taking so many drugs for various illnesses, and has gout which makes it so hard for him to even get up and move and do his physical therapy. =(

Wireless!? How awesome! I work in Physical Therapy and have used TENS units before. What I don’t like about them, and why I haven’t gotten one, are those wires. I’m bookmarking this one. Omron is my favorite health product place. I’ve had the best luck with their Blood Pressure machine and pedometers.

It’s portable, meaning you can stop pain wherever you may be…. when it becomes an inconvenience… like when you have your grandchildren at the park. Also, it is drug free, so a good method for people weaning off of pain medication.

I like that with the app you can track the location of my pain. My TENS unit is much older and feels like it shocks me. Since taking a direct hit to the head by lightning and the 6 surgeries since I have different levels of overriding pain. So if it isn’t my back it is the nerve pain in my leg or the ringing in my ear or ….so being able to track my pain would be a key element.

I learned a lot. I didn’t know about these. This would be great for my husband! One thing I learned other than the obvious usefulness is the battery is rechargeable.

I learned that the TENS machine prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. I knew that TENS machines can help people with anxiety, digestive troubles, and the like, but I did not know it could also assist with pain. I frequently experience neck and back pain from muscle tension associated with my anxiety disorder and would love to have this device.
